Much like video game adaptations, Hollywood would love to find a live-action take on a manga or anime that will resonate with Western audiences and the next take on the idea will be ‘My Hero Academia.’ While we’re all hoping that ‘Alita: Battle Angel‘ could pave the way that both ‘Ghost in the Shell‘ and ‘Death Note‘ wasn’t able to do, we’re already seeing Legendary Pictures looking to give us a new take on this iconic manga series.
For those unfamiliar with the manga, many aspects feel to be taken directly out of the pages of other properties. The world has 80 percent of the population suddenly developing powers which are called quirks. This has created a slew of heroes and villains in the world, and we’re put in the shoes of one boy who is stuck as ordinary but is obsessed with those who have powers. While he doesn’t have quirks, the boy is put into a position where he risks his own life in order to save his friend, and this brings the attention of the world’s greatest superhero.
The manga has over 17 million copies in circulation with an ongoing anime series based on it that is in its current season, and an animated feature film also released this year. We know that Toho is set to distribute the fan in Japan with Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter handling the film for Legendary and Ryosuke Yoritomi watching over the property for the manga publisher Shueisha.
There isn’t much more available in the way of details quite yet though more will likely be coming soon.
