JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the most well-known Japanese manga series of all time. Since its inception in 1987 as as serialized story in Japan’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine, the series has grown to an impressive array of adaptations that include video games, spin-off mangas, light novels, several animated TV series, and even a live-action film. Netflix has revealed that the newest iteration of the series, ‘Stone Ocean,’ will be premiering globally on the streaming service this coming December. Later this year, Netflix will bring another old-school cartoon property back to live with their 5-part miniseries ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation,’ spearheaded by long-time pop-culture creator Kevin Smith. Serving as the showrunner and executive producer, Smith is joined by behind-the-scenes talent from the original ‘He-Man and the Masters of the Universe’ series, including Frederick Soulie as an executive producer and Susan Cordin as a producer. Longtime Smith co-collaborator Marc Bernardin serves as one of the writers, and the series’ music is composed by Bear McCreary. Speaking about what the original 1980s cartoon series meant to him, Smith had this to say: I watched all of the TV series growing up, it was everywhere in the ‘80s. Dominique Fishback Is “So Thankful” For Her Unique Character In ‘Project Power’

Netflix’s latest original movie, ‘Project Power’ debuted over the weekend and was a huge success. (Netflix doesn’t release streaming numbers, but it was #1 for all three days.) The film stars Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but it seems that the breakout performance came from Dominique Fishback, who portrayed aspiring rapper/drug dealer, Robin, who gets dragged into Foxx’s character, Arthur’s vendetta against the pharmaceutical company that is flooding the streets with a designer drug called Power, which gives users superpowers for a limited time. Fishback previously co-starred on the Emmy-nominated series ‘The Deuce’, sketch comedy series ‘Random Acts of Flyness’, and the period miniseries ‘Show Me A Hero’, all of which were released by HBO. She also appeared in the films ‘The Hate U Give’ and ‘Night Comes On’. ‘Project Power’ Tackles The Tricky Subject Of Police Corruption With A Superpowered Edge

Netflix’s latest original film, ‘Project Power’, completely slipped under my radar, but it arrived this weekend, to strong streaming numbers (it’s currently #1), and is the latest example of a movie that was made prior to most of the current events of the last several months, yet somehow managed to perfectly tap into timely issues. Following the murders of African Americans George Floyd and Breona Taylor, among many others, at the hands of the police, rallies have called for the police to be defunded and dismantled. ‘Project Power’ filters that through a superhero lens, in a world where a corporation has flooded the streets with a designer drug that gives people superpowers, appropriately called “Power.” But the effects are unpredictable and don’t last long, so as in the case of most illicit substances, users have to keep going back for more. One such abuser is a cop himself, Frank Shaver (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). When he takes Power, it makes his skin impenetrable (see: Luke Cage). Tig Notaro Will Replace Chris D’Elia In Reshoots For Zack Snyder’s ‘Army Of The Dead’

Zack Snyder’s zombie heist movie, ‘Army of the Dead’ will undergo reshoots with one role completely recast. Stand-up comedian and actor Tig Notaro (‘Transparent’, ‘Star Trek: Discovery’) will replace Chris D’Elia, who has been accused of sexual misconduct involving underage girls. He has denied these accusations. These reshoots will take place as soon as it is determined to be safe under COVID-19 guidelines. It appears that Notaro will mostly be filmed using a green screen to digitally insert her into existing footage. ‘Army of the Dead’ was set to arrive on Netflix in winter 2020, but due to COVID-19, it has been pushed back to 2021. Initial filming was completed and it was in post-production before this announcement arrived. Dave Bautista heads up the ensemble cast which also includes Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, and Samantha Win. Series Creators Have Quit Netflix’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Live-Action Remake

Original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are no longer affiliated with Netflix’s live-action adaptation of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’. DiMartino posted an open letter on his website, which read in part: “Many of you have been asking me for updates about the Avatar live-action Netflix series. I can finally tell you that I am no longer involved with the project. In June of this year, after two years of development work, Bryan Konietzko and I made the difficult decision to leave the production. “When Bryan and I signed on to the project in 2018, we were hired as executive producers and showrunners. In a joint announcement for the series, Netflix said that it was committed to honoring our vision for this retelling and to supporting us on creating the series. And we expressed how excited we were for the opportunity to be at the helm. Netflix’s new series ‘Away’ brings a different approach to science fiction, as it seems to be more focused on family drama, as opposed to action. And that should come as no surprise, as it was created by Andrew Hinderaker, a former writer and story editor of ‘Pure Genius’ and ‘Penny Dreadful’, and is executive produced by ‘Friday Night Lights’ and ‘Parenthood’s Jason Katims. Jessica Goldberg, who also wrote for ‘Parenthood’, and created the Hulu series ‘The Path’, serves as showrunner. Netflix Acquires ‘Fear Street’ Trilogy From Disney; Will Release Them Next Year

‘Fear Street’ was a project that was set into motion by 20th Century Fox before it was acquired by Disney, but it seems it was far along enough that Disney allowed it to be finished. Originally, Fox planned to release ‘Fear Street’, based on R.L. Stine’s older-skewing horror novels as three theatrical movies, one month apart, starting this past June. Obviously, that didn’t happen. Now it appears that ‘Fear Street’ won’t get a theatrical release at all, as Netflix has reportedly acquired the films from Disney. Netflix has announced that ‘Fear Street’ will be part of an initiative called The Summer of Fear, next year. Netflix plans to stick to the one-month-apart release plan. In 1994, a group of teenagers find out that the terrifying events that have occurred in their town of Shadyside, Ohio may be connected to each other, and that they may be the next targets. The other movies will be set in 1978 and 1666, but will wrap up back in 1994. The climactic battle of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 2 took place on the Cooper farm in rural Texas, outside of the Dallas city limits, which was covered in picturesque snow. While ‘The Umbrella Academy’ is often visually stunning, this snow dusting was a happy accident. The cast and crew did not know it was going to snow, yet it looked great on film, so they rolled with this natural development. And Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison) literally rolled with the weather, as she slipped in her four-inch heels thanks to the unexpected ice and snow. “We all have such a good time on set, and when you’re doing stunts at such an extreme level, it’s inevitable that someone’s gonna trip, or whatever. I don’t mean that our stunts aren’t safe. They’re extremely safe. For the opening of ‘Wynonna Earp’ Season 3, the creators chose to interpret the famous Garden of Eden in a completely different way. Instead of a lush, tropical locale, the show depicted a frozen wasteland. As star Melanie Scrofano stated: “It was literally called Blizzard Lake — a body of water that had frozen. So every time I ran on it, I was, like, listening for cracks, you know? I was so scared!” Yes, that was a real location shoot, not a CGI background created using a green screen. And one of the biggest perils that comes with outdoor filming is the weather.
