A little over a year after its conclusion, the legendary Cartoon Network series ‘Adventure Time’ is making a comeback! The upcoming streaming service has announced four hour-long specials, under the banner title ‘Adventure Time: Distant Lands’. It was announced that the first two specials will be released in 2020, so presumably, that means the other two… won’t.
HBO Max’s head of original content, Sarah Aubrey said:
“The enchanted world of ‘Adventure Time’ has mesmerized viewers and critics alike as Finn and Jake right wrongs and battle evil. The addition of these specials to the HBO Max kids and family programming lineup is sure to make kids everywhere say, ‘Slam-bam in a can!'”
Rob Sorcher, chief content officer for Cartoon Network Studios, added:
“‘Adventure Time’ was a groundbreaking series and a creative playground for so many talented creative artists. Producing ‘Adventure Time: Distant Lands’ for HBO Max will allow our studio to explore this beloved world in an all-new format.”
Each special will focus on one or two characters from the beloved Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series. The first special, entitled “BMO” focuses on– who else?– BMO. “When there’s a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, there’s only one hero to call, and it’s probably not BMO — except this time, it is.”

The second episode will be named “Obsidian” and features Marceline and Princess Bubblegum, who were made an official couple in the last episode of the regular series. In this special, they must “journey to the imposing, beautiful Glass Kingdom — and deep into their tumultuous past — to prevent an earthshaking catastrophe.”
The other two specials haven’t been scheduled, but the first is “Wizard City” starring Peppermint Butler, and finally, the fourth “Together Again” finally brings together Jake the dog and Finn the human.
“Wizard City” finds Peppermint Butler “starting over at the beginning as just another inexperienced Wizard School student. Mysterious events on campus cast suspicion on Pep and his checkered past; can he master the mystic arts in time to prove he’s innocent?”
And then in “Together Again,” Finn and Jake must “rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives.”
