There’s quite a few feature films based on YA novels which will soon be released that are hoping to fill the hole that has been left with the conclusion of ‘The Twilight Saga.’ One film that looks like it may have a chance of becoming the next big franchise is ‘Beautiful Creatures.’
The film, which was originally slated to be released on February 13, will now be released on February 14th, Valentine’s Day. Quite appropriate as it does involved a supernatural romance, but instead of a vampire-human love story (or an alien-human romance like in ‘The Host’), ‘Beautiful Creatures’ involves a witch and a human.
‘Beautiful Creatures’ is based on the book trilogy by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and centers on two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich) who longs to escape his small town and Lena (Alice Englert), the mysterious new girl in town. Lena is a Caster, someone who has the ability to use magic, and upon her 16th birthday she must undergo the ‘Claiming,’ a ritual that forces her to choose between light or dark magic. Together, they uncover the dark secrets about their families, their history and their town. Also starring in the film are Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis, Emma Thompson and Emma Rossum.
The trailers are quite impressive as is the extended TV spot below. There is new footage to be seen and quite frankly, this film has a great chance of being the next franchise for Warner Bros. since the end of ‘Harry Potter.’
See if you agree as you watch the latest TV spot for ‘Beautiful Creatures.’
‘Beautiful Creatures’ comes to theaters on February 14, 2013.
