‘Narcos’ star Matias Varela will star opposite Travis Fimmel in Ridley Scott‘s new science fiction series for TNT, ‘Raised by Wolves’. The series hails from Scott Free Productions and Turner’s Studio T. Aaron Guzikowski will serve as executive producer and showrunner. He previously wrote and executive produced Sundance TV’s ‘The Red Road’.
[‘Raised by Wolves’] revolves around two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task.
Danish actor Amanda Collin (‘Theo & Den Magiske Talisman’) and Abubakar Salim (Amazon’s ‘Fortitude’) portray the two androids, Mother and Father. Fimmel (‘Vikings’) is the show’s lead and plays a man named Marcus.
Valera will be a series regular and portrays a character named Lucius:
A loyal soldier, who is trying to make up for the perceived failings of his father, a man whose sense of kindness and mercy were his ultimate undoing. Lucius is so committed to reversing his father’s legacy, that he devotes himself to serving the very man who executed him, a man he believes may be a savior to his people.
Valera may be best known for playing Jorge Salcedo on ‘Narcos’. He also starred in ‘Assassin’s Creed’ and ‘Point Break’ (the 2015 remake). He appeared on ‘The Borgias’, but the majority of his work has been in his native Sweden.
The ‘Raised by Wolves’ cast also includes Winta McGrath, Niamh Algar, Felix Jamieson, Ethan Hazzard, Jordan Loughran, Aasiya Shah and Ivy Wong. Fimmel’s Marcus is described as:
A roguish, charismatic soldier, who was the ultimate survivor back on Earth. To escape the doomed planet, Marcus and his wife Sue made a dangerous decision that they must keep secret at all costs. But now that they’ve arrived in the new world, Marcus is struggling to reconcile the sins of his past, even as he continues to embrace the killer instincts that always kept him alive in the first place.
TNT ordered ‘Raised by Wolves’ straight-to-series. This marks Ridley Scott’s first time directing for television.
