Ridley Scott is not slowing down as he gets older as the famed director has just had his new televisions series ‘Raised by Wolves’ picked up by TNT. Scott is set to not just executive-produce the series, but it is slated to be his debut for directing a TV show as well! It isn’t clear at this time if we’ll see him directing the entire series or just certain episodes with other directors rotating in as many shows do these days. Aaron Guzikowski (‘Prisoners’) will be the writer and showrunner for the series and is slated to be an executive producer with Scott. Also sitting on as executive producers are David W. Zucker (‘The Man in the High Castle’), Jordan Sheehan (‘The Terror‘) Adam Kolbrenner (‘Prisoners’), and Robyn Meisinger (‘Prisoners’).
‘Raised by Wolves’ will be about two androids who raise human children on a mysterious planet. Things are initially progressing well until the new colony is threatened to be torn apart as different religious factions rise against one another. The androids discover that trying to control “the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task.”
From ‘Blade Runner’ to ‘Alien‘ we know that androids and artificial intelligence have long been a fascination for the director and now it seems that he’ll be returning to his focus on them. Not only that, but the last film which Scott directed was The Martian‘ which also put a human on another world. It will be fun to see how he blends these two concepts in the upcoming show.
In a statement released by TNT, Scott shares:
“I’m always searching for new frontiers in the sci-fi genre and have found a true original in Raised by Wolves — a wholly distinct and imaginative world, full of characters struggling with existential questions: What makes us human? What constitutes a family? And what if we could start over again and erase the mess we’ve made of our planet? Would we survive? Would we do better?
Given TNT’s impressive run of bold, quality programming, this feels like exactly the right home for this kind of ambitious television.”
The concept could be a fun one to see play out.
