Heroes Of The CW Suit Up In 10 New DC Fandome Posters

Next weekend, DC Comics (an AT&T/WarnerMedia subsidiary) will hold its first-ever virtual fan convention, DC Fandome, and in anticipation of that event, The CW has released posters showcasing its slate in DC shows. Newcomers ‘Stargirl’ (Brec Bassinger) and ‘Superman & Lois’ (Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch) are included along with Cress Williams (Black Lightning/Jefferson Pierce) from ‘Black Lightning’, Grant Gustin (The Flash/Barry Allen) and Candice Patton (Iris West-Allen) from ‘The Flash’, and Melissa Benoist (Supergirl/Kara Danvers) and Nicole Maines (Nia Nal/Dreamer) from ‘Supergirl’. It’s interesting that Patton and Maines get their own posters, when they are supporting castmembers, while The CW’ real ensemble show, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ only gets one poster, depicting Caity Lotz as White Canary/Sara Lance. But the strangest inclusion is the poster for ‘Batwoman’. In May, the show’s lead, Ruby Rose, quit the show. She has since been replaced by Javica Leslie, but due to COVID-19, it doesn’t appear that production has resumed on any of these shows, and Leslie may not have even done a costume fitting yet. Fans of DC Comics and its various media had to have been disappointed that none of them were presented at San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual con this year. Instead, the WarnerMedia DC empire is holding its own virtual con, DC Fandome, on August 22. This event will take place for 24 hours. At least from the look of things, DC Fandome will be a more interactive experience (I really don’t need to see another Zoom panel) and “attendees” will be able to explore various virtual areas and get teases from upcoming projects like the movies ‘Aquaman’ (the sequel or the movie that came out two years ago?), ‘The Batman’, ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, and HBO Max’s re-edit ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’; and the TV shows ‘Batwoman’, ‘Doom Patrol’, ‘Lucifer’, and ‘Pennyworth’. “Real Heroes Wear Masks” tout a new series of posters from The CW featuring some of the stars of its DC Comics-inspired shows. Okay, so these are just photoshopped versions of previously released promo images, but they’re a fun way to hopefully help curb the spread of COVID-19. The posters feature ‘Black Lightning’s Cress Williams, ‘The Flash’s Grant Gustin, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’s Caity Lotz, and ‘Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist, as well as Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, star of the upcoming ‘Superman & Lois’ plus Brec Bassinger, the lead on ‘Stargirl’, another DC show, but one that is not part of the Arrowverse. Yes, there is one glaring omission: Batwoman. Ruby Rose shockingly quit that series in May. And while her replacement, Javica Leslie, was hired last month, she would not have had time to suit up and do a photoshoot. (Although that would’ve been cool, and a big scoop!) In May, WarnerMedia’s new streaming service announced that Snyder would edit together a cut of ‘Justice League’ that was true to his original vision, as opposed to the one that Joss Whedon crafted, which is the version released in theaters. Though there aren’t any details yet, a virtual table read of George Miller’s aborted ‘Justice League: Mortal’ will be held for charity. Along with ‘Superman Lives’/’Superman: Flyby’, ‘Batman Unchained’, and ‘Super Max’ (starring Green Arrow), this is one of those potentially great DC Comics movies that never got made, although its basic plot has been public knowledge for years now. In 2015, filmmaker Ryan Unicomb announced plans for a documentary that would delve deep into this unmade film, but it failed to materialize. Earlier this year, Unicomb announced that production on the doc would resume, under a new title, ‘Seven Friends: George Miller’s Justice League’. But until then, this table read may suffice if you’ve ever had any questions about this project. Voice performer Shannon Farnon teased the table read with a post on her Facebook page: ‘Justice League: Mortal’ was on the verge of filming in Australia in 2007, when a writers’ strike derailed it. Okay, well… I’ve tried to be positive about this, buuuut… DC Universe has ceased offering annual memberships. This can really only mean one thing– DC Universe won’t be around for another year. The writing has been on the wall for a while. DC Universe’s original series are steadily being “shared” with other outlets with ‘Stargirl’ also airing on The CW, soon to be joined by ‘Swamp Thing’, while ‘Doom Patrol’ is also available on HBO Max, with ‘Harley Quinn’ joining it in a couple of weeks. Word arrived weeks ago that ‘Stargirl’ was moving entirely to The CW and would no longer be offered on DC Universe. The CW, DC Universe, and HBO Max are all owned by parent company WarnerMedia, and many have speculated that with the launch of the bigger, more expansive streaming platform, HBO Max, that DC Universe’s days were numbered. They were right. DC Universe, which costs $7.99 a month, was said to be shifting its focus to digital comics and news. ‘The Flash’: Reportedly, Michael Keaton Is Playing Bruce Not Thomas Wayne

We can officially lay to rest one line of speculation regarding Michael Keaton‘s planned return to the cowl in the role of Batman in ‘The Flash’. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmation from unidentified sources that Keaton will be playing the Bruce Wayne version of Batman, the same role he played in 1989’s ‘Batman’ and its sequel ‘Batman Returns’ in 1992. The same source confirmed that Keaton will wear the costume. Or at least a costume. It’s not clear if he will squeeze back into that hard-to-move-in foam rubber from his previous films (or at least a modern recreation) or if he will be given a new Bat-Suit. According to this source, Thomas Wayne doesn’t appear in the script at all. The news that Keaton was in talks to return as Batman in ‘The Flash’ caught fans off-guard last week. Now fans just need to figure out just what all this means. It was assumed that ‘The Flash’ would take place in the same continuity of ‘Batman V Superman’, ‘Justice League’ et al. ‘Justice League: The Snyder Cut’ Will Become A Reality On HBO Max!

Perhaps the longest fan social media campaign ever has finally paid off, as Warner Brothers will release “The Snyder Cut” of the box office disappointment ‘Justice League’ via HBO Max. Zack Snyder himself made the bombshell announcement following a Vero Watch Party for one of his other WB DC movies, ‘Man of Steel’. Warner Brothers will spend an additional $20-30 million on “The Snyder Cut” for added special effects, score, and editing. It doesn’t appear that any reshoots will be done, even though Snyder reportedly had plans for some additional scenes which were not filmed, for instance, a Martian Manhunter cameo. However, it is believed that some of the cast will be brought back to record some new dialogue. “The Snyder Cut” will be released in 2021 and will allegedly be four hours long (!) or may be broken up into a six-hour miniseries (!!). Expect More Villains From Recent Comics On ‘The Flash’ Season 7

‘The Flash’ has just returned to The CW to air the remaining episodes of the current sixth season, following a delay caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. But the creators of the show are already looking to the future and making plans for Season 7. The recent seasons introduced new villains including Bloodwork and Godspeed who were created in more modern comics, by writer Joshua Williamson, with Godspeed making his debut in 2016’s ‘The Flash: Rebirth’ Vol 2 #1, and Bloodwork arriving in 2017’s ‘The Flash’ Vol 5 #29. And according to executive producer/showrunner Eric Wallace, the show will continue to pull from more recent comics for rogues, although fans will still be able to look forward to returns from more classic characters like Gorilla Grodd. Warner Brothers has shuffled its DC Comics slate of movies, with ‘The Batman’ moving from June 25, 2021, to Oct. 1, 2021, after the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic shut down its production. In a startling move, ‘The Flash’, which hasn’t begun production, has been moved up from July 4, 2022, to June 3, 2022. ‘Shazam! 2’ has been pushed back from April 1, 2022, to November 4, 2022. Earlier, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ was delayed from June 5 to August 13 of this year, but that date is somewhat in question, as there still is no vaccine for the coronavirus. Now that all of that is out of the way, let’s address the big red elephant in the room– ‘The Flash’ and its star Ezra Miller. Two weeks ago, a short video surfaced online, in which it appeared that Miller choked a female fan at a bar in Iceland, forcing her to the ground. Miller is reportedly in Iceland filming ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’, also for Warner Brothers. ‘The Flash’ is back! After a delay due to the COVID-19 outbreak, The CW’s #1 show will be back with new episodes, beginning next Tuesday, April 21, at its usual time of 8/7c. The first new episode is entitled “So Long and Goodnight,” and it is the 16th episode of Season 6. There were originally going to be a total of 22 episodes in S6, but due to coronavirus shut-downs, that number has been decreased. (I do not know how many episodes remain, but it sounds as though all the new episodes will air back-to-back with no further interruptions.) Not only is ‘The Flash’ returning, but so is a villain from the past– the Ragdoll (Troy James), who first menaced the residents of Central City in Season 5. Well, as the headline reads, the upcoming animated film ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ will be the last set in this DC shared universe. This cycle kicked off with ‘Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox’ in 2013, which was followed by ‘Justice League: War’, ‘Son of Batman’, ‘Justice League: Throne of Atlantis’, ‘Batman Vs. Robin’, ‘Batman: Bad Blood’, ‘Justice League vs. Teen Titans’, ‘Justice League Dark’, ‘Teen Titans: The Judas Contract’, ‘Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay’, ‘The Death of Superman’, ‘Reign of the Supermen’, ‘Batman: Hush’, and ‘Wonder Woman: Bloodlines’. Of course, there have been multiple DC animated movies released during this time that have not been connected to this shared universe, and Warner Bros. Animation will continue to create and release original DC animated flicks– they will just be free-standing. There is also the possibility that they could establish a new shared universe with a different art style and direction.
