DC is getting set to deliver its biggest fan experience ever with DC Fandome, a virtual convention that will cover everything from the comics to television to film and will feature appearances from some major stars from all fields. Fans of DC Comics and its various media had to have been disappointed that none of them were presented at San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual con this year. Instead, the WarnerMedia DC empire is holding its own virtual con, DC Fandome, on August 22. This event will take place for 24 hours. At least from the look of things, DC Fandome will be a more interactive experience (I really don’t need to see another Zoom panel) and “attendees” will be able to explore various virtual areas and get teases from upcoming projects like the movies ‘Aquaman’ (the sequel or the movie that came out two years ago?), ‘The Batman’, ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, and HBO Max’s re-edit ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’; and the TV shows ‘Batwoman’, ‘Doom Patrol’, ‘Lucifer’, and ‘Pennyworth’. DC Universe Stops Offering Annual Subscriptions… Meaning It Probably Won’t Last Another Year

Okay, well… I’ve tried to be positive about this, buuuut… DC Universe has ceased offering annual memberships. This can really only mean one thing– DC Universe won’t be around for another year. The writing has been on the wall for a while. DC Universe’s original series are steadily being “shared” with other outlets with ‘Stargirl’ also airing on The CW, soon to be joined by ‘Swamp Thing’, while ‘Doom Patrol’ is also available on HBO Max, with ‘Harley Quinn’ joining it in a couple of weeks. Word arrived weeks ago that ‘Stargirl’ was moving entirely to The CW and would no longer be offered on DC Universe. The CW, DC Universe, and HBO Max are all owned by parent company WarnerMedia, and many have speculated that with the launch of the bigger, more expansive streaming platform, HBO Max, that DC Universe’s days were numbered. They were right. DC Universe, which costs $7.99 a month, was said to be shifting its focus to digital comics and news. ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ Will Be The Last Movie In This DC Animated Universe

Well, as the headline reads, the upcoming animated film ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ will be the last set in this DC shared universe. This cycle kicked off with ‘Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox’ in 2013, which was followed by ‘Justice League: War’, ‘Son of Batman’, ‘Justice League: Throne of Atlantis’, ‘Batman Vs. Robin’, ‘Batman: Bad Blood’, ‘Justice League vs. Teen Titans’, ‘Justice League Dark’, ‘Teen Titans: The Judas Contract’, ‘Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay’, ‘The Death of Superman’, ‘Reign of the Supermen’, ‘Batman: Hush’, and ‘Wonder Woman: Bloodlines’. Of course, there have been multiple DC animated movies released during this time that have not been connected to this shared universe, and Warner Bros. Animation will continue to create and release original DC animated flicks– they will just be free-standing. There is also the possibility that they could establish a new shared universe with a different art style and direction. This sequence of movies was meant to reflect DC Comics’ “New 52” reboot, which launched in 2011. Its been almost a full decade since DC Direct rebranded itself as DC Collectibles, but now they’re coming full circle and reclaiming the name that started it all! Kicking off Toy Fair 2020 by announcing their return to the name DC Direct, DC Comics in house collectibles team is restating their mission statement of bringing you the best products based on the DC Comics universe direct from the source. If there was one major takeaway from DC Direct’s showcase at Toy Fair 2020, it was that action figures are about to once again be at the forefront of their efforts! WB Assembles Its Largest Voice Cast Ever For The Epic Animated Movie ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’

Heroes of Earth beware! Darkseid is coming back for his revenge at long last. Warner Bros. Animation marks six years of interwoven DC movies by delivering what sounds like the biggest yet. Based on the New 52 relaunch, things kicked off with ‘Justice League: War’, which adapted the first storyline from that version of the ‘Justice League’ comic book, showing the formation of the team (and the origin of Cyborg) to stave off an invasion by Darkseid and his Parademons. Now he’s bringing payback in the new movie ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ and part of the voice cast has been announced. Tony Todd (‘Candyman’) reprises the voice of Darkseid. Todd previously voiced the despot in ‘Reign of the Supermen’. (Steve Blum voiced him in ‘War’.) It appears the three heroes that will be the most heavily featured are Superman, John Constantine, and Raven. Super Saturday: ‘The All-New Super Friends Hour’ (1977) – The Justice League Returns To The Small Screen

The first season of ABC’s ‘Super Friends’ aired during the 1973-74 season, but was not renewed for a second. But after some of ABC’s new Saturday morning shows failed, the network began rerunning ‘Super Friends’ and the strong ratings inspired the network to order a new season from Hanna-Barbera. But big changes occurred. The first season was an hour-long, but that was one hour-long story. And due to pressure from the group ACT (Action for Children’s Television), the show was devoid of any violence or excitement. Episodes had an overall environmental slant, and most of the time, the antagonists weren’t evil, but misguided. (It was a snooze.) Luckily, that scrutiny was relaxed by 1977 when ‘The All-New Super Friends Hour’ premiered. In the new episodes, the heroes actually confronted real villains, motivated by greed and power. They still weren’t allowed to physically strike them, but the episodes were still faster-paced and more exciting, and the focus was on the heroes themselves, not the sidekicks, as had been the case before. ‘The Star Wars Holiday Special’ has an infamous reputation– as it should because it is indeed terrible. However, what many may not realize is that while, yes, this special is hard to sit through, it’s actually not that different from the majority of what was on TV during the 1970s. Everything sucked back then. (I mean ‘Hee Haw’ was a top-rated show through the entire decade!) And everybody had a variety show. The Brady Bunch, Donny & Marie Osmond, The Muppets, and of course, the Justice League of America. Makes complete sense, right? Wait, what?! On January 18 and 25, 1979, (consecutive Thursday nights) NBC aired two hour-long specials featuring the heroes and villains on the DC Universe. Almost 40 years before the ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ stormed onto The CW, another team of DC champions blasted into living rooms under the name ‘Legends of the Superheroes’ with the first chapter subtitled ‘The Challenge’ and part two called ‘The Roast’. Stop reading if you haven’t watched it yet! * * * * Well, ‘Arrow’ is over, and fans can finally move on from the show that started the ‘Arrowverse,’ albeit with one very notable exception, the fate of John Diggle. For years fans have been enamored of Oliver Queen’s one-time bodyguard and driver who turned into his best friend and partner in vigilantism, and became even more interested in Diggle once rumors started flying that he might be a future Green Lantern due to his similarities to the Lantern John Stewart (who a lot of fans outside of comics still remember from the beloved ‘Justice League’ and ‘Justice League Unlimited’ animated series in the early 2000s.) The ending of the Arrowverse crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths” was a treat for fans of DC TV shows across various outlets. For starters, the crossover wound up accomplishing what most viewers had hoped from the beginning– that all of The CW’s DC Comics shows, including ‘Black Lightning,‘ were now set on one Earth, Earth-Prime. But that doesn’t mean that all of the realities from the Multiverse were gone. Hints About HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’ Series Make The ‘Green Lantern Corps’ Movie Unlikely

The CW and parent company Warner Brothers slammed fans with repeated shocks in the finale of the crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths” including a few surprises that no one was expecting, like Ezra Miller‘s cameo as the cinematic Barry Allen/The Flash, and a brief clip toward the end revealing the first glimpse of the upcoming ‘Green Lantern’ TV series (above). At the end of October, HBO Max announced plans for “a Green Lantern-inspired project,” but that could mean a number of things. We now know that HBO is delivering an actual ‘Green Lantern’ TV show, produced by Greg Berlanti, the mastermind behind The CW’s Arrowverse. Even though HBO Max’s head of original programming, Sarah Aubrey says that the streaming service is only in the “early stages of talking to him about,” the fact that a preview was included on this episode of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ would indicate that this show will arrive sooner rather than later. HBO Max itself launches in the spring of this year.
