Here is what Lee said (via The Hollywood Reporter): “The original content that is on DCU is migrating to HBO Max. Truthfully, that’s the best platform for that content. The […]

At least from the look of things, DC Fandome will be a more interactive experience (I really don’t need to see another Zoom panel) and “attendees” will be able to explore various virtual areas and get teases from upcoming projects like the movies ‘Aquaman’ (the sequel or the movie that came out two years ago?), ‘The Batman’, ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, and HBO Max’s re-edit ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’; and the TV shows ‘Batwoman’, ‘Doom Patrol’, ‘Lucifer’, and ‘Pennyworth’. To promote DC Fandome, Warner Brothers has released a rousing trailer, set to John Williams’ ‘Superman: The Movie’ theme song.  Check it out below: These are the virtual areas that fans can explore (via Collider): DC WatchVerse: Here’s where you grab a seat, sit back, and join our virtual audience and become completely engrossed in hours of must-see content from around the world. Justice Con: Ray Fisher On Why DC’s Superhero Movies Are The Best https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/27/justice-con-ray-fisher-on-why-dcs-superhero-movies-are-the-best/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/27/justice-con-ray-fisher-on-why-dcs-superhero-movies-are-the-best/#disqus_thread Mon, 27 Jul 2020 13:00:18 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=354492 Ray Fisher didn’t spend all of his time during Justice Con trashing Joss Whedon.  Fisher has been a vocal advocate for ‘Justice League’s original director Zack Snyder, who previously helmed ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘Batman V Superman’.  ‘Man of Steel’ did okay, but ‘Batman V Superman’ was loudly decried for being a terrible movie that was too dark (among other flaws). But Fisher thinks this was what the ocean of superhero movies needs. “For me personally, I need something new.  I need something that speaks to the way the world is today, not this idealized sort of yesteryear version of who these individuals are. The world is complicated. The heroes need to be just as complicated to help people deal with the circumstances that we’re facing every single day… If an alien with superpowers came down to Earth today do you think people would be like, ‘Yeah, come on let’s go!’? We can’t even get along with one another.” Guess he didn’t see ‘Black Panther’. Despite Fisher’s tastes, the DC movies performed rather poorly, until the tone was changed to bring them a bit closer in style to the Marvel offerings.  ‘Wonder Woman’ was a smash, and ‘Aquaman’ made over […]

Fisher has made waves lately, due to accusations leveled against Joss Whedon, who took over directing after Snyder departed after the death of his daughter. Joss Wheadon’s on-set treatment of the cast and crew of Justice League was gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. He was enabled, in many ways, by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Accountability>Entertainment — Ray Fisher (@ray8fisher) July 1, 2020 Fisher has since said that he is still under contract with Warner Brothers and signed a nondisclosure agreement that prevented him from going into details about his beef with Whedon. During his appearance at Justice Con, Fisher said: “I don’t want to compare them in any way, shape, or form.  But what I will say toward the Joss Whedon […]

Snyder himself participated and below are some of the facts and teases he shared: It May Not Be Called ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ “The name of the movie, as Zack Snyder’s Justice League, is the name we all want. It is the name that we are working on. It’s legal reasons that restrict it. We’re trying to work that out. That’s the cool name for it. We’ll see. You’ll have to start a letter-writing campaign.” Fans May Get A Trailer At DC Fandome DC didn’t have much of a presence at SDCC, perhaps because the WarnerMedia subsidiary is hosting its own virtual fan expo, DC Fandome on August 22.  While a few bits of footage were revealed for Justice Con, Snyder promised more.’ “I will tell you guys, at Fandome […]

Forget The Snyder Cut! There’s Going To Be A Table Read Of George Martin’s ‘Justice League: Mortal’! https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/22/forget-the-snyder-cut-theres-going-to-be-a-table-read-of-george-martins-justice-league-mortal/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/22/forget-the-snyder-cut-theres-going-to-be-a-table-read-of-george-martins-justice-league-mortal/#disqus_thread Wed, 22 Jul 2020 12:00:54 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=354315 Though there aren’t any details yet, a virtual table read of George Miller’s aborted ‘Justice League: Mortal’ will be held for charity.  Along with ‘Superman Lives’/’Superman: Flyby’, ‘Batman Unchained’, and ‘Super Max’ (starring Green Arrow), this is one of those potentially great DC Comics movies that never got made, although its basic plot has been public knowledge for years now. In 2015, filmmaker Ryan Unicomb announced plans for a documentary that would delve deep into this unmade film, but it failed to materialize.  Earlier this year, Unicomb announced that production on the doc would resume, under a new title, ‘Seven Friends: George Miller’s Justice League’.  But until then, this table read may suffice if you’ve ever had any questions about this project. Voice performer Shannon Farnon teased the table read with a post on her Facebook page: ‘Justice League: Mortal’ was on the verge of filming in Australia in 2007, when a writers’ strike derailed it.  Even though the cast had been gathered and sets had been built, Warner Brothers opted to scrap the project entirely.  ‘Mortal’ had been envisioned as an attempt to compete with the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe, but WB decided to work backward and release a […]

DC Universe Stops Offering Annual Subscriptions… Meaning It Probably Won’t Last Another Year https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/21/dc-universe-stops-offering-annual-subscriptions-meaning-it-probably-wont-last-another-year/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/21/dc-universe-stops-offering-annual-subscriptions-meaning-it-probably-wont-last-another-year/#disqus_thread Tue, 21 Jul 2020 20:24:48 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=354308 Okay, well… I’ve tried to be positive about this, buuuut… DC Universe has ceased offering annual memberships.  This can really only mean one thing– DC Universe won’t be around for another year. The writing has been on the wall for a while.  DC Universe’s original series are steadily being “shared” with other outlets with ‘Stargirl’ also airing on The CW, soon to be joined by ‘Swamp Thing’, while ‘Doom Patrol’ is also available on HBO Max, with ‘Harley Quinn’ joining it in a couple of weeks.  Word arrived weeks ago that ‘Stargirl’ was moving entirely to The CW and would no longer be offered on DC Universe.  The CW, DC Universe, and HBO Max are all owned by parent company WarnerMedia, and many have speculated that with the launch of the bigger, more expansive streaming platform, HBO Max, that DC Universe’s days were numbered.  They were right. DC Universe, which costs $7.99 a month, was said to be shifting its focus to digital comics and news.  But then it went and canceled ‘DC Daily’, its comic book news show that aired Monday through Friday. On June 30, DC Universe subscribers were offered the chance to add HBO Max for $4.99 […]

As Pruitt told Metro UK: “We had a great relationship, Joss and I, but he changed as the show took off… By season four I’d become fed up and told them I was going to leave to direct Second Unit on another series. The producers told me that Joss reacted as if I was having an affair or something behind his back.” It appears that Whedon retaliated by telling Crawford she would be fired unless she broke up with Pruitt.  As Crawford said: “I was called into the office and I was given an ultimatum. And they said to me, ‘Come back to the show, but you need to leave Jeff, or don’t come back’ And so I basically started crying. And I said ‘F you. That’s horrible, bye.” Upon his departure from ‘Buffy’, Pruitt penned a poem called “The Parable of the Knight” in which he cast […]

Victor Stone.  Fisher appeared in the role first, making a cameo in ‘Batman V Superman’ before appearing in a significant role in ‘Justice League’ in 2017.  Wade made his debut last year on DC Universe’s TV series ‘Doom Patrol’, which just launched its second season on DC Universe and HBO Max. While it might seem natural to pit two actors playing the same role against one another, Fisher shut that right down. Keep doin’ your thing, @JoivanWade! I believe Kai Cole and Charisma Carpenter. — Ray Fisher (@ray8fisher) July 3, 2020 Kai Cole is Whedon’s ex-wife.  In 2017, as the #MeToo movement was building steam, she wrote an essay for The Wrap, including this statement: “Joss admitted that for the next decade and a half, he hid multiple affairs and a number of inappropriate emotional ones that he had with his actresses, co-workers, fans, and friends, while he stayed married to me.” She also revealed that Whedon used his “feminist” status to cover for his mistreatment of women, both real, and the characters in his various projects. Also in 2017, Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel’ stated that Whedon fired her after she got pregnant and didn’t bother to tell her in person. “I actually got a phone call from somebody in the press, which really sucked.” At 2009’s Dragon Con, Carpenter also said (via Telegraph): “What happened was that my relationship with Joss became strained.  We all go through our […]
