Marvel recently announced that ‘Captain Marvel‘ would be their first leading cinematic female superhero and while many fans couldn’t be more excited one has to ask, what about ‘Black Widow‘? Scarlett Johansson has already portrayed the character in a few Marvel movies as a supporting character and they’ve given her a lot of back story to work off of that could play into a ton of what she does in the comic. It’s also been hinted she’ll have her own movie. So why isn’t there one?
Well fans have been asking the same thing and Nathan Edmondson, who is responsible for writing the ‘Black Widow’ comic, took it onto himself to pen a 6 page introduction to a movie that he’d like to see that fits both his character in the books and the Black Widow that we’ve come to know in the Cinematic Universe. Is this a Black Widow intro that we may potentially one day see on the big screen? I think a lot of that depends on Marvel announcing a film in the near future as well as how they’ve written her into ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron‘ and beyond.
Still, it’d be a great spy/mercenary thriller that would fit well into the world specifically shown off in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘ and you can check out his take on it by either heading over to Nathan Edmondson’s Website to read it in PDF format or check it out below!

INT. BERLIN DOM CATHEDRAL – SANCTUARY – AFTERNOONA priest leaves the confessional. He folds his stoth as he crosses the church and disappears. A few tourists in jackets and scarves shuffle around nave. Their whispers echo through the space like the fluttering of unseen birds.
An old woman prays with shaking, gloved hands near the front, a shawl over her shoulders.
The bell rings, sounding the turn of the hour. The old woman sits back. She grabs a TRASH BAG full of her belongings and shuffles off toward the ALTAR, making a turn back into a restricted hallway…INT. BACK HALLWAYS TO STAIRS – CONTINOUS
The old woman picks up pace. The bag she carries seems filled with just blankets, swinging lightly, until she sets it on the floor with a THUD. It’s heavy. Very heavy.
And she’s not old.
She removes her tattered hair and cap to reveal tight red locks. The shawl falls off to reveal a WHITE AND GRAY snow camouflage jacket, tailored to fit. Her “face” comes off with a pull as a translucent film of spots and wrinkles crumples away into her hand.
Beneath is NATASHA ROMANOFF. Strong face, deep eyes full of mystery; she’s beautiful, but all business.
She opens the trash bag to reveal A DUFFEL BAG with straps. She looks up a small, spiraling stairwell to see a WINDOW.
NATASHA
Okay.
EXT. BERLIN DOM CATHEDRAL – MOMENTS LATER
Natasha, now in ALL WHITE CAMO, SCALES the cathedral, the window now thirty feet beneath her. A WHITE BAG is strapped to her back.
A MOMENT LATER
She’s ON HER STOMACH, the white case open beside her as she READIES A SNIPER RIFLE.
She aims through the scope. She checks her watch.
She waits.
She exhales.
SHE FIRES.
EXT. DOWNTOWN BERLIN INTERSECTION – SAME
SNAP POP! A JUNCTION BOX at a busy intersction EXPLODES in sparks, which goes unnoticed by the cars below as THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS go out.
Two cars collide.
Traffic comes to a standstill. Horns sound over the city as we’re back to…
THE CATHEDRAL
…where Natasha is already climbing down.
She drops to the ground and looks at the city. She isn’t carrying the sniper rifle. She heads across KARL LIEBNECHT STRASSE bridge over the Spree. She yanks off her jacket and reverses it; she now looks commonplace; just any passerby.
But she’s jogging toward —
BUSY TRAFFIC
She looks down a cross street toward a FIVE STAR HOTEL and double checks her watch. She eyes the cars. Finds a LIMO…
INT. TOWN CAR – A MOMENT LATER
A mustached man in a suit — call him KLEIN — mashes with fat thumbs at his smart phone.
He yells forward at his driver.
KLEIN
(in German with Subtitles)
Why aren’t we moving?DRIVER
I’m sorry, Mr. Klein. Some traffic. I’ll update you when it appears to clear.Klein grumbles to himself as he returns to his phone.
The DOOR BESIDE HIM opens and NATASHA enters. She slides into the seat beside Klein.
KLEIN
Excuse me?NATASHA
(also in German with subtitles)
Explain to your driver to roll up the window and pay me no mind.
Klein glances down at a SIG P226 that’s PRESSED INTO HIS SIDE from beneath her jacket. He opens his mouth to protest, but one look at her expression and he can’t but oblige.Confused, the driver nonetheless obliges.
KLEIN
What do you want?NATASHA
I want to meet Beringer.KLEIN
I don’t know any Beringer.Natasha holds up a picture of Klein embracing a man at a funeral.
NATASHA
(in English now)
Let me be more clear, Mr. Klein. I want to meet this Beringer. The one you met with yesterday.
KLEIN
He won’t allow you in.NATASHA
I suspect he will.INT. BERINGER’S PENTHOUSE – NIGHT
Beringer from the picture — bearded, prickly man with shrewd eyes and an imposing frame, sits at dinner surrounded by armed guards who also eat. They watch a FOOTBALL MATCH on TV at the end of the table.
There’s a buzz and Beringer turns to look at the door. A man approaches. The man whispers to Beringer.
BERINGER
Let him in.
KLEIN enters with nondescript NATASHA in HANDCUFFS.BERINGER (CONT’D)
What’s this?KLEIN
She was — um —He glances at her and clears his throat. We see he has a bit of a BLACK EYE. She doesn’t look up.
KLEIN (CONT’D)
She was trying to steal from you, Mr. Beringer.
BERINGER
Steal money? Steal heroin?
KLEIN
I’m — uh — not sure.Beringer approaches her. Yanks her chin up. Inspects her. Pulls off her cap. Her RED HAIR is suddenly visible.
BERINGER
Red head?Beringer shrugs.
BERINGER (CONT’D)
I’ll give her to my men to deal with. Redheads aren’t my thing. He turns around to gestures toward his men–
NATASHA
And these aren’t handcuffs.
She PULLS HER WRISTS APART, and the links UNFOLD into a WIRE — we see the hints of BRASS around her wrist poking out from under her jacket sleeves.
She WHIPS the wire over Bering’s NECK as she KICKS klein back behind her.BERINGER’S MEN spring into action, but the first two
-SNAP! Fall back as Natasha fires DOUBLE DARTS from her wrists and then TWISTS her wrists to deliver a SHOCK through the wire–
BERINGER is down.
AS he falls, she pulls up TWO PISTOLS and twists toward the guards who have sprung into action —
She shoots one in the knee, one in the shoulder, all non-lethal–
One grabs her jacket and she jerks him toward, and DROPS to shoot under his arm at the last one by the table — she FLIPS the guard above her and he LANDS behind her just as she KICKS him in the head. Out.
It all happened impossibly fast.
She turns to Klein, who groans.
KLEIN
Who are you really? She unzips her jacket. IT FALLS with her PANTS, and beneath the white and gray was BLACK — her BLACK WIDOW suit, complete with belt, boots and gauntlets. Her hair hangs now.
She reaches down and grabs Beringer with one hand and lifts him off the ground to drag him away.
NATASHA
I’m for hire. She turns to the back window of his apartment where curtains hang over the windows. The windows behind begin to GLOW brightly. She STEPS OVER BLOOD as she drags Beringer through it.
She WHIPS the curtain open. A HELICOPTER hovers outside.
She SHOOTS the window. Wind and snow FLOOD into the penthouse. We see BLOOD whipped up off the floor and SUCKED out the window.
EXT. BERLIN STREET – SAME
We move away from the building as the helicopter banks away and disappears into the snowstorm. We focus in on a SNOWFLAKE as it collides with a DROP OF BLOOD.
The snowflake, now heavy, SPIRALS downward until it hits a bank of white snow.Several other flakes seep with red. The wind blows. The snow begins to clear out, revealing, beneath the red and white —
