Greg Berlanti Is Bringing DC Shows 'Green Lantern' And 'Strange Adventures' To HBO Max
Warner Brothers

Greg Berlanti is bringing two more DC Comics properties to the small screen, but this time it won’t be on The CW.  It has been announced that HBO Max will be home to sci-fi anthology ‘Strange Adventures’ and what is only referred to as “a Green Lantern-inspired project.”  This news emerged at the festivities for WarnerMedia Day.  According to Berlanti:

“Both of these original DC properties we’ll be creating for HBO Max will be unlike anything seen on television.”

DC Comics

Berlanti explained that ‘Strange Adventures’ will be “an anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist,” and will feature “close-ended morality tales about the intersecting lives of mortals and superhumans.”  The focal character will be Adam Strange, the man of two worlds.  In the comics, Adam Strange gets periodically zapped back and forth between Earth and the utopian planet Rann.  Shaun Sipo recently portrayed the character on ‘Krypton’.  Berlanti’s production partner, Sarah Schechter will also executive produce, and ‘Gotham’s John Stephens will act as showrunner.

Berlanti declared that the ‘Green Lantern’ series would be “what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made… we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series — but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet.”  No further info was supplied about this show.

Berlanti previously acted as a producer on the 2011 box office dud ‘Green Lantern’ starring Ryan Reynolds, but he has since gone on to craft much more faithful translations of DC Comics properties with The CW’s ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, ‘Supergirl’, ‘Black Lightning’, and ‘Batwoman’, as well as the tie-in animated projects ‘Vixen’, ‘Freedom Fighters: The Ray’, ‘Constantine: City of Demons’, and the upcoming ‘Deathstroke: Knights & Demons’, which were originally offered on The CW Seed, and DC Universe’s ‘Titans’, ‘Doom Patrol’, and ‘Stargirl’.  He also executive produces The CW’s ‘Riverdale’, ‘All American’, and the upcoming ‘Katy Keene’ and Netflix’s ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’.

Because of the 2011 movie, Warner Brothers has been hesitant to bring the character (or characters) back to the big screen, although a ‘Green Lantern Corps’ movie has been in development for years.

Are you excited that HBO Max will be presenting shows based on ‘Green Lantern’ and ‘Strange Adventures’?
