HBO Releases First Official Teaser for Game of Thrones Prequel House of the Dragon

HBO released the first official teaser for the much-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon at their HBOMax Europe launch event. House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” series which focuses on the story of House Targaryen set 200 years before the fall of The Throne in Game of Thrones. The story follows the members of House Targaryen and the Targaryen civil war which came to be known as the “Dance of the Dragons.” Watch the teaser trailer below and let us know what you think! Jurnee Smollett starred in the TV series ‘Underground’ created by Misha Green. Now Green acts as showrunner of HBO’s new horror hit ‘Lovecraft Country’, on which Smollett also stars. Earlier this year, Smollett was seen as Black Canary/Dinah Lance in the DC Comics film ‘Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’, and while the flick wasn’t a huge smash (COVID-19 caused theaters to shut down almost right after it opened), Smollet admits that she would return to play Black Canary in a future film, while Green revealed that they had a past connection that concerns the comic book hero. Smollett says: “It’s no secret how much I love Black Canary. It’s a dream character and was a dream to play her. If there’s one thing horror movies have made abundantly clear, it’s that islands are terrible and no one should ever go to one, especially if they’re isolated. Only bad things happen. And that idea is further conveyed in the trailer for HBO tense new miniseries ‘The Third Day’. The trailer definitely gives off some less-sunny ‘Midsommar’ vibes. So if you had to cancel plans for a summer vacation this year, maybe that was for the best. Here is HBO’s official synopsis for the mini: The show is divided into two parts: ‘Summer’ and ‘Winter.’ In ‘Summer,’ one man (Jude Law) visits a mysterious island off the British coast and discovers a group of inhabitants intent on preserving their home at any cost. Jurnee Smollett Says It’s “Maddening” That The Racism In ‘Lovecraft Country’ Is Still A Problem Today

In addition to being a major star-on-the-rise in Hollywood, Jurnee Smollett has been an activist for Black rights from a young age. As a child in 1992 (around the time she began appearing on ‘Full House’ as Michelle’s friend Denise), she was holding up signs after Rodney King’s infamous beating. At 12, she was volunteering at a social justice nonprofit and by 18, she was its youngest board member. She has been actively meeting with members of the Black Lives Matter organization in recent months. And as it happens, her new HBO series, ‘Lovecraft Country’, set in the American South in the 1950s– the time of Jim Crow– also addresses matters of racism with a healthy dash of the supernatural. While Smollett is excited about the new series, she is understandably furious, that the same issues facing her character 70 years ago are still problems that Black Americans face today. Showrunner Misha Green Says ‘Get Out’ And ‘Lost’ Paved The Way For ‘Lovecraft Country’

Showrunner Misha Green says that HBO’s upcoming ‘Lovecraft Country’ would not exist had it not been for two previous hit projects– ‘Get Out’ and ‘Lost’. It’s no coincidence that ‘Lovecraft Country’ is executive produced by ‘Get Out’s director, Jordan Peele, and ‘Lost’s creator J.J. Abrams. So expect to see influences from both on ‘Lovecraft Country’. Participating in this year’s Television Critics Association (held virtually for the first time), Green explained how ‘Get Out’ opened the door: “I think this would have been incredibly hard to get on screen if Get Out hadn’t come out. I think that paved the way for people to really open up to the idea of seeing more Black people in genre spaces.” And regarding ‘Lost’, she said: “It’s an epic journey that wouldn’t have been possible if we weren’t making TV at the level that started with Lost and that pilot.” Peele produces via his Monkeypaw Productions, while Abrams does so through his Bad Robot. HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us’ Adaptation Will Include Elements Cut From The Original Game

HBO’s series adaptation of the Sony Playstation game ‘The Last of Us’ will incorporate elements designed for the game but never used, according to producer Craig Mazin (‘Chernobyl’). Mazin is collaborating closely with game director Neil Druckmann, who has been filling him in on some lost nuggets that will finally find their way into the ‘Last of Us’ universe. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Mazin teased: “Neil, at one point, he’s like, ‘You know, there was one thing we were talking about for a while,’ and then he told me what it was. I was like, ‘Well, that’s going in. You couldn’t stop me from doing that.’ So we’re doing that. And there’s quite a few things like that where it’s not like, ‘Oh, we just decided, oh, wouldn’t it be cool if there was one episode where Joel and Ellie get on motorcycles and confront a motorcycle gang?’ That’s not what we do. HBO’s miniseries ‘Watchmen’, based on the comic book by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, wowed Hollywood by scoring the most Emmy nominations of any program this year– a whopping 26! One major nod was for the show’s lead, Regina King who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role as masked police officer Angela Abar a.k.a. Sister Night. HBO’s explosive ‘Watchmen’ was the belle of the ball when the Emmy Award nominations were announced yesterday. The miniseries scored 26 noms, the most of any program this year. Among the honorees was Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who, through most of the series, played the mild-mannered Calvin Abar, before shedding that façade to reveal his true form, that of the god-like Doctor Manhattan. He and the show’s creator, Damon Lindelof, reacted to the show’s success following the Emmy announcement. Lindelof has declared that he is finished with ‘Watchmen’ after his entry. He would prefer that HBO continue the series by bringing in other writers, but so far, the network has not made an announcement of doing so. HBO may have suffered a huge loss when ‘Game of Thrones’ ended, but for at least one year, when it comes to awards, it has a suitable replacement. ‘Watchmen’ led the pack of this year’s Emmy Awards with a whopping 26 nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series. In that category, it is competing with ‘Little Fires Everywhere’, ‘Mrs. America’, ‘Unbelievable’, and ‘Unorthodox’. Show leads, Jeremy Irons (Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias), and Regina King (Angela Abar/Sister Night) scored nods for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, and Outstanding Lead Actress, respectively. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Calvin Abar/Doctor Manhattan), Jovan Adepo (young William Reeves/Hooded Justice), and Louis Gossett Jr. (old William Reeves) were all nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor, while Jean Smart (Agent Laurie Blake) was recognized in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category. ‘Watchmen’ scored the most nominations of any series this year, with Amazon Prime Video’s comedy ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ coming in second with 20. In addition to unveiling a new trailer, HBO’s ‘Lovecraft Country’, an ominous clip has also been released. It’s not obvious what is going on in this clip. The main characters, Atticus Black (Jonathan Majors), his uncle, George Freeman (Courtney B. Vance), and Letitia “Leti” Lewis (Jurnee Smollett) are in a… museum? They seem to be searching for a doorway, but then it seems that they are being watched. “This is some Journey to the Center of the Earth-type shit,” Atticus exclaims. As part of its SDCC@Home presentation, HBO delivered the trailer for ‘His Dark Materials’ Season 2. Among the highlights, was the reveal of the mysterious city of Cittàgaze, where a distraught Lyra (Dafne Keen) meets a new ally, Will Parry (Amir Wilson), who is from “our” world. (Via Deadline) “Lyra and Will learn their destinies are tied to reuniting Will with his father but find their path is constantly thwarted as a war begins to brew around them. HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ was both a ratings hit and critically acclaimed, so it’s definitely a series that many are eyeing to score some Emmy love. As members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences prepare to cast their votes, the cast and creators of ‘Watchmen’ are making the rounds to drum up support. One of the most popular characters on ‘Watchmen’ was Looking Glass, a.k.a. Wade Tillman, portrayed by Tim Blake Nelson. While on the surface, Looking Glass seemed to be a stand-in for Rorschach, Tillman was much better-adjusted, although he did have a trauma in his past. Due to the COVID-19 shutdowns, one of the biggest pop culture events of the year, San Diego Comic-Con International, will not be held, but organizers have managed to pull together some of the biggest names in entertainment to provide a virtual Comic-Con that millions will be able to view from the safety and comfort of their homes.
