HBO Releases First Official Teaser for Game of Thrones Prequel House of the Dragon

HBO released the first official teaser for the much-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon at their HBOMax Europe launch event. House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” series which focuses on the story of House Targaryen set 200 years before the fall of The Throne in Game of Thrones. The story follows the members of House Targaryen and the Targaryen civil war which came to be known as the “Dance of the Dragons.” Watch the teaser trailer below and let us know what you think! Jim Lee Confirms DC Universe Content Is Moving To HBO Max

Well, we all knew it was coming, but it appears to be official. DC Universe will continue to provide digital comics and a platform for fans to interact, but its original TV projects are moving over to HBO Max. HBO Max already offers the animated ‘Harley Quinn’ and live-action ‘Doom Patrol’, but according to Jim Lee, DC Comics’ sole publisher after the departure of Dan DiDio earlier this year, it sounds as though the remainder of DC Universe’s original continent will also shift over. That includes the live-action ‘Titans’ and animated ‘Young Justice’. Just weeks ago, DC Universe quietly stopped offering annual memberships. ‘Stargirl’, meanwhile, was moved over to The CW, where it has performed strongly. It was already announced that Season 2 would only be released via The CW and not DC Universe. The CW is also airing ‘Swamp Thing’ a live-action series that only lasted for one shortened season, and there have been faint rumbling that a second season could be in the cards if it performs well. WarnerMedia Looks To Be Selling Crunchyroll; Sony May Be Interested

Following the launch of its HBO Max streaming service, WarnerMedia is looking to sell off its anime-focused Crunchyroll, and it appears as though Sony, which already owns Funimation, is one of the parties interested in taking it off their hands. In July, Crunchyroll notched three million subscribers, equal to the number that the more expansive HBO Max has acquired since its launch in May. Crunchyroll launched in 2006. The service already has a working relationship with Sony’s Funimation, which has released anime DVDs from Crunchyroll’s library. Currently, Crunchyroll offers over 900 anime titles, 200 East Asian dramas, and 50 manga titles. WarnerMedia was bought out by AT&T in 2018, and the parent company is looking to unload some debt, and reportedly, WarnerMedia’s new head, Jason Kilar is looking to sell off assets that aren’t part of the company’s core entertainment business. Also allegedly hitting the market will be gaming division, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. But 600 employees are expected to be laid off total. On Friday, he fired executives Bob Greenblatt and Kevin Reilly, and created a new division, headed by Ann Sarnoff, which will encompass its studios and networks. Fans of DC Comics and its various media had to have been disappointed that none of them were presented at San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual con this year. Instead, the WarnerMedia DC empire is holding its own virtual con, DC Fandome, on August 22. This event will take place for 24 hours. Ridley Scott is back to doing what he does best– creepy-ass sci-fi! However, in an interesting shift, Scott’s latest, ‘Raised by Wolves’, is a series, not a movie. This project was first announced in 2018, but at the time was being developed for TNT. Instead, ‘Raised by Wolves’ will howl on HBO Max. [‘Raised by Wolves’] revolves around two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task. Scott directed and executive produced two episodes of the show’s total of ten. His company, Scott Free also produces the show. ‘Raised by Wolves’ was created and written by Aaron Guzikowski (‘The Red Road’), with Heather Bellson (‘American Gods’, ‘The Walking Dead’) co-writing one episode. ‘Raised by Wolves’ follows two androids, Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) who are tasked with raising a pack of human children on a very inhospitable alien world. In addition to being a major star-on-the-rise in Hollywood, Jurnee Smollett has been an activist for Black rights from a young age. As a child in 1992 (around the time she began appearing on ‘Full House’ as Michelle’s friend Denise), she was holding up signs after Rodney King’s infamous beating. At 12, she was volunteering at a social justice nonprofit and by 18, she was its youngest board member. She has been actively meeting with members of the Black Lives Matter organization in recent months. And as it happens, her new HBO series, ‘Lovecraft Country’, set in the American South in the 1950s– the time of Jim Crow– also addresses matters of racism with a healthy dash of the supernatural. While Smollett is excited about the new series, she is understandably furious, that the same issues facing her character 70 years ago are still problems that Black Americans face today. HBO’s miniseries ‘Watchmen’, based on the comic book by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, wowed Hollywood by scoring the most Emmy nominations of any program this year– a whopping 26! One major nod was for the show’s lead, Regina King who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role as masked police officer Angela Abar a.k.a. Sister Night. HBO’s explosive ‘Watchmen’ was the belle of the ball when the Emmy Award nominations were announced yesterday. The miniseries scored 26 noms, the most of any program this year. Among the honorees was Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who, through most of the series, played the mild-mannered Calvin Abar, before shedding that façade to reveal his true form, that of the god-like Doctor Manhattan. He and the show’s creator, Damon Lindelof, reacted to the show’s success following the Emmy announcement. Lindelof has declared that he is finished with ‘Watchmen’ after his entry. He would prefer that HBO continue the series by bringing in other writers, but so far, the network has not made an announcement of doing so. As he told Variety: “We wanted people to understand that even in the context of this piece of fiction that the show started with something that really happened. HBO may have suffered a huge loss when ‘Game of Thrones’ ended, but for at least one year, when it comes to awards, it has a suitable replacement. ‘Watchmen’ led the pack of this year’s Emmy Awards with a whopping 26 nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series. In that category, it is competing with ‘Little Fires Everywhere’, ‘Mrs. America’, ‘Unbelievable’, and ‘Unorthodox’. Show leads, Jeremy Irons (Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias), and Regina King (Angela Abar/Sister Night) scored nods for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, and Outstanding Lead Actress, respectively. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Calvin Abar/Doctor Manhattan), Jovan Adepo (young William Reeves/Hooded Justice), and Louis Gossett Jr. (old William Reeves) were all nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor, while Jean Smart (Agent Laurie Blake) was recognized in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category. ‘Watchmen’ scored the most nominations of any series this year, with Amazon Prime Video’s comedy ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ coming in second with 20. In addition to unveiling a new trailer, HBO’s ‘Lovecraft Country’, an ominous clip has also been released. It’s not obvious what is going on in this clip. The main characters, Atticus Black (Jonathan Majors), his uncle, George Freeman (Courtney B. Vance), and Letitia “Leti” Lewis (Jurnee Smollett) are in a… museum? They seem to be searching for a doorway, but then it seems that they are being watched. “This is some Journey to the Center of the Earth-type shit,” Atticus exclaims. In May, WarnerMedia’s new streaming service announced that Snyder would edit together a cut of ‘Justice League’ that was true to his original vision, as opposed to the one that Joss Whedon crafted, which is the version released in theaters. But even though there are some frightening zombie-like creeps, there’s nothing terribly Lovecraftian… until the end. YES! The series will actually include some Chthulu-like tentacled beasts! As part of its SDCC@Home presentation, HBO delivered the trailer for ‘His Dark Materials’ Season 2. Among the highlights, was the reveal of the mysterious city of Cittàgaze, where a distraught Lyra (Dafne Keen) meets a new ally, Will Parry (Amir Wilson), who is from “our” world. (Via Deadline) “Lyra and Will learn their destinies are tied to reuniting Will with his father but find their path is constantly thwarted as a war begins to brew around them.
