I must admit, I am a little confused as to why there are so many new characters in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’. After all, director J.J. Abrams already had a lot on his plate, considering that this ninth film wraps up the 40+-year-old franchise. There are still so many plot threads that need to be resolved involving the existing ensemble of characters, did we NEED Zorii Bliss or Jannah? Of course, I don’t know what the story is, so maybe they amount to more than “new toys.” *cough* Captain Phasma *cough*
On top of all of that, Abrams is reportedly squeezing in some Easter Eggs to different corners of the ‘Star Wars’ universe, like an appearance by the ship The Ghost from the animated series ‘Star Wars Rebels’. Now Abrams has hinted that another beloved fan favorite from the animated universe will appear in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’– Ahsoka Tano, the young Jedi-in-training that starred in the popular ‘Clone Wars’ series!
During an interview with Japanese movie news outlet Sora News 24, interviewer P.K. Sanjun asked Abrams who his favorite character was, to which he quickly replied “Han Solo.”

But he turned the tables and asked Sanjun: “By the way, who’s your favorite character?” That was followed by this exchange:
P.K.: Me? Ahsoka Tano. Sorry for picking someone who only appears in the animated stuff [Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels], but I really like her positive, determined personality.
Abrams: Hmmm, Ahsoka, huh? Well then you’ll probably want to watch closely during The Rise of Skywalker.
P.K.: Wh-whoa-wait-whaaaaaaaaaat?
Abrams: Hahaha, well, enjoy the movie!
A member of the Togruta race from the planet Shili, Ahsoka was the Padawan to Jedi Master Anakin Skywalker. Of course, we all know how Anakin turned out. On ‘The Clone Wars’, Ahsoka’s optimism contrasted with Anakin’s shift to the Dark Side.
She starred in all five seasons of ‘The Clone Wars’, then returned in ‘Rebels’, in disguise, using the alias “Fulcrum.” After her identity was revealed at the end of the first season, she went on to confront her former mentor, Darth Vader, whom she thought had died.

She has also been featured on ‘Star Wars: Forces of Destiny’, an animated web series designed to promote the girl-targeted toy line of the same name.
She is expected to return in the revival of ‘Clone Wars’ which is set to arrive on Disney+ in 2020.
Well, Abrams seems to be teasing, and he stressed that the interviewer should “watch closely” meaning that should Ahsoka appear, it will be an Easter Egg, perhaps in the background of a scene.
