An Agatha Harkness ‘WandaVision’ Spin-Off is in the Works at Disney+

According to a report from Variety, Disney+ plans to launch a ‘WandaVision’ spinoff based around the character of Agatha Harkness. As typical with most Marvel projects, details on this future Disney+ series are slim to none, however, we do know that Kathryn Hahn will revive her role as fan-favorite Agatha Harkness and it looks like Jac Schaeffer, head writer of ‘WandaVision,’ would be filling the slot as the writer and executive producer. While sources have described the show as a dark comedy, we know we can all look forward to one of our favorite witches returning to the screen in what is sure to be another captivating series. Thanks to the fine folks as Disney+, we were granted early access to the first three episodes of the first-ever MCU TV series, ‘WandaVision.’ This is a spoiler-free over-arching review, as we would never want to intentionally spoil anything for our readers! You’ll find individual reviews of Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3 here on ScienceFiction.com, as they become available to the public. The first thing that jumps out at the viewer upon engaging with the new series is that this is definitely NOT your typical entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s no secret that the previews have shown the episodes with a decidedly “classic TV sitcom” type of vibe, and this is the general format that the show follows, with each episode “taking place” in a different chronological sitcom era, progressing forward through time (at least, through the first trio of episodes, anyhow); the first episode is set in a 1950s type of ‘I Love Lucy’ vibe, with episode two wandering into the ‘Bewitched’ feel of the 1960s, and the third episode moves things smoothly into the 1970s, with some of the televised technological advances that came with that era. For anyone who was debating canceling their Disney+ subscription anytime soon, Marvel has thrown down the (Infinity) gauntlet and smoothly said “on your left” with the release of the first full trailer for the forthcoming ‘WandaVision’ series, the first series from Marvel Studios to stream exclusively on their parent company’s online service. Unleashed upon the world during the broadcast of the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, Disney has confirmed via their marketing materials sent to us that the series will premiere sometime before the end of this calendar year. With Star Wars series ‘The Mandalorian’ already slated to debut on Disney+ on October 30th of this year, the likely landing point for the ‘WandaVision’ premiere would be somewhere around or shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday in late November. ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’ Teleports Four Months Back For A New 2022 Release Date

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Magic’ was just delayed a couple of weeks ago, from its original release date of May 7, 2021, to November 5, 2021. Now it has been pushed back even further, to March 25, 2022. On a more positive note, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ has actually been moved up from February 18, 2022, to February 11. The delay for ‘Doctor Strange’ is probably due to the fact that a new director, Sam Raimi, has just announced that he has officially signed on. Raimi replaced Scott Derrickson who helmed the first ‘Doctor Strange’ but quit the sequel due to creative differences, which ironically included studio-mandated release dates. Derrickson had reportedly not begun working on the screenplay before his departure. Jade Bartlett had been announced as screenwriter last October, but it isn’t clear how much work she did. In February, Michael Waldron was said to be taking over writing duties. Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Wong are returning from the first movie. (Cumberbatch and Wong have appeared in multiple other Marvel movies since.) Sam Raimi Confirms He Is Directing ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’

It was first revealed in February that Sam Raimi was in talks to direct ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and the director has confirmed that he has officially signed on. Raimi previously helped kick-off the modern superhero film stampede by helming ‘Spider-Man’ (2002), ‘Spider-Man 2’ (2004), and ‘Spider-Man 3’ (2007). He planned to direct a fourth film with Tobey Maguire, but that was scuttled when Sony decided to reboot the franchise with director Marc Webb and with Andrew Garfield assuming the role of Peter Parker. Raimi has an affinity for Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme, having slipped an Easter Egg into ‘Spider-Man 2′, in which Ted Raimi’s character suggests “Doctor Strange” as a moniker for the newest villain on the scene, Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina), which J.K. Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson dismisses saying that the name was already taken. Coronavirus Causes European Disney+ Press Event To Be Cancelled

The coronavirus is slowly creeping its way across the globe. We had better get used to it affecting our everyday lives. Yes, even Disney is going to suffer. Even the thought of the man-made possibly being within the vicinity of a major event is grounds for cancellation. The virus won’t be scaring guests away from parks yet, but it is sending journalists and celebrities home early. RELATED: San Diego Comic-Con Braces For The Impact Of The Coronavirus Deadline is reporting that a planned massive press event for Disney+ European launch has been scrapped. The presser was going to feature presentations from an unspecified list of guests. The attendees supposedly included Disney executives and “creative heads.” It would be fair to assume that this meant the team behind ‘The Mandalorian’ and the upcoming Marvel series like ‘WandaVision’. Disney+ Reveals When To Expect ‘The Mandalorian’ S2, ‘Falcon & Winter Soldier’, And ‘WandaVision’

During a call with industry analysts, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the release time frames for some highly anticipated original programs– the second season of ‘The Mandalorian’, and the premieres of Marvel Studios’ ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ and ‘WandaVision’. While he didn’t give exact launch dates, Iger did give a better idea of when to expect these shows. First up will be ‘The Falcon and Winter Soldier’ which is set to arrive in August. This info was revealed (perhaps accidentally) last week, but now it’s official. ‘The Mandalorian’ will arrive in October. Season 1 premiered this past November, so that means less than a year will have gone by between seasons. And finally, ‘WandaVision’ is “on track” for a December arrival. (The third Marvel series, ‘Loki’ will arrive sometime in 2021.) There weren’t many major new movie trailers during the Super Bowl, but leave it to Disney… or more specifically, Disney+ to get us all eating out of its palm with an ad for the new Marvel shows. The new trailer, unleashed toward the end of the big game, offered the first footage of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ and ‘WandaVision’, both of which are expected to arrive later this year, as well as a brief glimpse of ‘Loki’, which is expected next year. ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ delivers a look at Sam Wilson/The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) practicing his shield throwing skills, and he seems to be doing pretty well! There are also some big screen-quality action sequences. But it was the clips from ‘WandaVision’ that looked especially impressive. We already knew that the show would be set in a sitcom-like reality, but I don’t think it was ever hinted that it would be set in ALL of the sitcom-like realities. Here Are The Top Fantastic Streaming Shows That Await Us In 2020

Now that we’re into the new year, it’s time to look ahead and see what the wonderful world of streaming has in store for us in 2020. Similar to my list of top streaming shows of 2019, this will be a mix of new and returning series. Sadly, some of the best shows from 2019 — namely The Witcher and The Expanse — won’t make the cut as, based on everything I’ve seen, we’ll be waiting until 2021 before they’re back on the calendar. Well, that’s enough chit-chat from me; time to get into the list. But first, the honorable mentions. Altered Carbon, Season 2 (Netflix)—It’s been nearly two years (!) since season one of this sci-fi gem premiered on Netflix. Based on the novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon takes place in a future where death has been all but eliminated. Whereas Joel Kinnaman was the season one protagonist, Anthony Mackie (who’s on this list for another series) will step in as the same character but different body. There has been talk of Nightmare serving as the main villain of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, but industry publication/website Production Weekly has revealed a synopsis for the sequel that indicates that at least one villain in the picture will be someone viewers are already familiar with, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo. Here is the synopsis: After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Dr. Stephen Strange continues his research on the Time Stone. But an old friend turned enemy seeks to destroy every sorcerer on Earth, messing with Strange’s plan and also causing him to unleash an unspeakable evil. Of course, Nightmare may be the “unspeakable evil” mentioned. But clearly, Mordo is the “old friend turned enemy,” which was set up in the first movie. Oddly, Ejiofor isn’t listed as part of the cast, but Rachel McAdams is. She had the relatively small role in the first movie as Doctor Christine Palmer, Strange’s colleague and potential romantic interest. There hasn’t been any mention of her returning, but it would make sense to bring her back, if only to give McAdams more to do. There are RUMORS swirling around that ‘WandaVision’ will introduce the teen superhero Hulkling, also known as Teddy Altman, a member of the Young Avengers. Hulkling is the boyfriend of Wiccan, a.k.a. Billy Kaplan, the son of Scarlet Witch and Vision. In November, another RUMOR emerged that Billy and his long-lost twin brother, Tommy “Speed” Shepherd were also going to appear on the upcoming Disney+ series. That rumor was never confirmed. If Billy isn’t on ‘WandaVision’, then it makes no sense for Teddy to appear. Marvel Studios issued a statement to Deadline, stating: “Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. How’s this for 2020 Vision? Disney+ released a new trailer showcasing many of the new movies and TV shows coming to the service in 2020, and included in the mix is Marvel’s ‘WandaVision’, a series that was previously expected to arrive in spring 2021. But the show has been filming since November, so it looks as though everyone involved thinks the show will be ready sooner than anticipated. Also displayed in the video is ‘The Falcon & The Winter Soldier’, but that was already expected in “late 2020.” Jac Schaefer, one of the writers of ‘Captain Marvel’, serves as producer, writer, and showrunner of ‘WandaVision’. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany return in their roles as Wanda Maximoff and The Vision, respectively. Marvel chief Kevin Feige has stated that Wanda will actually take on the identity of “The Scarlet Witch,” her superhero name from the comics which has never been uttered in the movies. While many fans are excited to see the X-Men and Fantastic Four make their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, don’t forget that their rights packages shifting over to Disney from 20th Century Fox also includes the rights to the figure that is perhaps the ultimate Marvel supervillain, Doctor Doom. And while Marvel Studios hasn’t announced when the Fox characters will debut in the MCU, it may be setting the stage for the introduction of Doom in one of its upcoming Disney+ series, ‘WandaVision’. This is far from etched in stone, but some Twitter posts from actor Sheila Knoxx indicate that she has been cast in ‘WandaVision’ and that she would be filming in “Doomstadt” the village frequently shown as the “capital city” of the kingdom of Latveria. Fans have been dying to see what Disney’s Marvel Studios will do with the Marvel properties whose live-action rights were previously held by 20th Century Fox, specifically the X-Men and Fantastic Four. Now, word has emerged that we’ll find out in 2021 with the release of Disney+’s ‘WandaVision’ starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. That series will introduce the first former-Fox Marvel property. Unfortunately, it’s not one that anybody cares about. No, it won’t be the X-Men or even an X-Man, or anybody associated with the Fantastic Four. ‘WandaVision’ will introduce S.W.O.R.D. The Sentient World Observation and Response Department first appeared in 2004’s ‘Astonishing X-Men’ vol. 3 #6, which means that its film rights were included with those of the ‘X-Men’. Headed up by the green-haired Abigail Brand, S.W.O.R.D. was an offshoot of S.H.I.E.L.D. focused on defending Earth from extraterrestrial threats. Brand was romantically involved with The Beast/Hank McCoy.
