You may think you’ve seen Wanda Maximoff unleashed on the big screen, but you ain’t seen nuthin’ yet, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. As usual, the details of Marvel projects are kept under wraps, but Feige attended Brazil’s CCXP con and offered a few hints at the upcoming Marvel projects, including the mysterious series ‘WandaVision’ which will star Paul Bettany as The Vision, and Elizabeth Olsen as a character we currently only know as Wanda Maximoff. While most people know that Wanda is also known as the Scarlet Witch in the comics, she has never been referred to by that moniker in the movies, but Feige says that will change.
As he stated at CCPX:
“[We have] the opportunity to tell their story, and show more of what Wanda can do, more of what makes Vision, Vision, and most importantly, reveal a name that I’m not even sure we’ve said in the MCU yet, but we make a big deal of in the show, is the fact that Wanda is the Scarlet Witch. And what does that mean, that she is the Scarlet Witch? That’s what we play into with this show in ways that are entirely fun, entirely funny, somewhat scary, and will have repercussions for the entire future of Phase 4 of the MCU.”
‘WandaVision’ is expected to be a reality-warping, genre-bending excursion that blends elements from classic black and white sitcoms, horror, and regular Marvel movies. The sitcom scenes were reportedly filmed in front of a live studio audience. Kathryn Hahn has been cast as Agnes, Wanda and Vision’s nosey neighbor. There are also rumors that they will be the parents to twins, a development lifted from the comics, and which may help set up the ‘Young Avengers’ in the future of the MCU. Reportedly, Nightmare will serve as the villain of both this series and the upcoming theatrical movie ‘Doctor Strange in the Madness of the Multiverse’, which Olsen will also co-star in.
Feige added:
“The multiverse is the next step in the evolution of the MCU, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is gonna crack it wide open in ways that will have repercussions for a Disney+ series just before it, that’s not WandaVision, and for movies just after it in a big, fun way.”
Presumably, the show he is talking about is ‘Loki’, which he did previously tease would connect to ‘Doctor Strange 2’.
It sounds like ‘WandaVision’ will be step one in an important journey toward the future of the MCU. Will you be embarking on it?
‘WandaVision’ is expected to arrive on Disney+ in Spring 2020.
