The Duffer Brothers are actively checking out the fan theories for the second season of ‘Stranger Things‘ for Netflix and unlike many showrunners are actually talking about them! The first season left us with a slew of questions which we hope will be at least partially answered during the second season which is currently being filmed and theories are all over the place on what we can expect.
Referring to Netflix’ second season teaser for the series which included titles like “The Boy Who Came Back To Life,” “The Secret Cabin,” and “The Lost Brother.”, Matt states:
“Even if they aren’t the final chapter titles, everything in that teaser is major. But they’re ambiguous enough that no one is going to be able to figure it out. Some of the fan theories online are amazing. Most are wrong, but I’ve read a few that are right or very close. Is it Reddit? Some of those people have figured stuff out based off of the chapter titles.”
With the entire Internet abuzz about this 80s throwback horror and science fiction mashup, it should come as no surprise that someone has had a correct theory on what to expect. Ross added:
“Some of these theories are elaborate and smart. They’re not crap. I love reading this stuff.”
The teaser that we all love almost never saw the light of day. The brothers actually had to veto what Netflix wanted as Matt explains:
“Netflix had another teaser, but it was about going back to stuff that had happened already. I thought it wasn’t exciting enough, and we wanted to provide some hint of where we were going in season two without giving anything away. I do think some of the titles will change. There were titles we didn’t want to put on there because we felt like it would give too much away. The whole season was already broken when we did this.”
While the first season was all about trying to find Will, we know that the second season will be more about the Upside Down:
“Once we got into the room for season two, we started expanding our mythology. We never got boxed in, because we’re dealing with an alternate dimension. It feels like the possibilities are limitless.”
I know that I’ve made it clear how excited I am for the second season of ‘Stranger Things’ but with the hints at even more of the Upside Down showing up in our world just makes this the show that I can’t wait for.
