John Carpenter‘s ‘Halloween’ is about to get a major reboot on the big screen, utilizing his famous (or rather infamous) theme song. He has consistently supplied theme music to his own projects as well as others and his latest collaboration is with the Shudder horror streaming service. But perhaps composing theme music is just the first step in his relationship with Shudder.
As he spoke to Consequence of Sound, he revealed:
“We’re talking to them about doing a theme… And maybe doing a show for them. What would you think about Prince of Darkness as a TV show?… Well, maybe. Maybe not. I don’t know. I’m not going to tell you. I’m not going to tell you.”
Carpenter remained tight-lipped. In fact, he didn’t even reveal what the music he was working on was for. But at least there is the kernel of an idea that ‘Prince of Darkness’ could be getting the small screen treatment.
‘Prince of Darkness’ was released in 1987 and concerns a priest who finds a mysterious container of slime. As scientists attempt to study it, they discover it is the essence of Satan and as it seeps out, begins turning people into zombies, until one unlucky student, Kelly takes a heavy dose and becomes Satan herself. Susan Blanchard portrayed Kelly, while Donald Pleasence depicted the priest who finds the container.
Shudder is a division of AMC and as such has access to their library of horror titles. They are also producing a slate of original and exclusive programming, including an anthology film called ‘Show Pieces’ written by comic book creator Alan Moore, another anthology, ‘Creepshow’ spearheaded by ‘The Walking Dead”s Greg Nicotero, ‘Mayhem’ starring Steven Yeun and Samara Weaving, and shows like ‘Angelby’, ‘The Core’, and ‘Channel Zero’ (a partnership with Syfy).
