The voice cast for ‘Justice League vs. The Fatal Five’ has been announced and there are a few surprises! This film, which guest stars the Legion of Superheroes, doesn’t appear to take place in the same universe as the more recent animated movies. Kevin Conroy, the most beloved Batman voice actor, reprises his famous role, whereas Jason O’Mara (‘The Man in the High Castle’) has been voicing the Caped Crusader most recently. George Newbern, and Susan Eisenberg, who voiced Superman and Wonder Woman, respectively, on ‘Justice League’ and ‘Justice League Unlimited’, alongside Conroy’s Batman, will be back for this film. Jerry O’Connell has been voicing Superman in the more recent films, with Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman. Judging by the sound of things (no pun intended), this could very well be a return to the ‘JL’/’JLU’ timeline!
Here is the synopsis for ‘Justice League
“‘Justice League vs. The Fatal Five’ finds the fate of the earth hanging in the balance when the Justice League faces a powerful new threat — the Fatal Five! Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman seek answers as the time-traveling trio of Mano, Persuader and Tharok terrorize Metropolis in search of budding Green Lantern, Jessica Cruz. With her unwilling help, they aim to free remaining Fatal Five members Emerald Empress and Validus to carry out their sinister plan. But the Justice League has also discovered an ally from another time in the peculiar Star Boy — brimming with volatile power, could he be the key to thwarting the Fatal Five? An epic battle against ultimate evil awaits!”
There are a few newcomers joining these vocal veterans.
The plot centers on new Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, voiced by Diane Guerrero, who will also be portraying Crazy Jane in the upcoming DC Universe live-action series ‘Doom Patrol’. Before that, Guerrero starred on ‘Orange is the New Black’, ‘Superior Donuts’, and ‘Jane the Virgin’, and she provides the voice of Vestia on Disney’s ‘Elena of Avalor’.
While this will be Jessica Cruz’s first mainstream DC animated movie appearance, she has already appeared on ‘DC Superhero Girls’ and the ‘LEGO Justice League’ movies.
Joining her will be ‘Scorpion’ star Elyes Gabel, who will provide the voice of Legion of Superheroes member Star Boy. Gabel previously appeared on ‘Game of Thrones’ as Rakharo, and on the series ‘Body of Proof’ and in the movie ‘World War Z’.
As for the movie’s villains, The Fatal Five, Peter Jessop, who contributed to the ‘LEGO DC Super-Villains’ video game as Monsieur Mallah, Red Tornado, Steppenwolf, and Two-Face, will voice their leader Tharok. Matthew Yang King (‘Batman: Ninja’) voices The Persuader, while Sumalee Montano (‘This is Us’) portrays the Emerald Empress. The final speaking member, Mano, will be played by Philip Anthony Rodriguez (‘Just Cause 4’). The monstrous Validus doesn’t really speak.
Also included in the cast are Daniela Bobadilla (‘The Middle’) as Miss Martian, Noel Fisher (‘Shameless’) as Brainiac 5 and frequent DC voices Kevin Michael Richardson as Mr. Terrific, and Tara Strong as Saturn Girl. Perhaps the oddest bit of casting news is that the voice of Spongebob Squarepants, Tom Kenny is voicing the DC villain Bloodsport!
Bruce Timm serves as executive producer.
A release date hasn’t been announced for ‘Justice League vs. The Fatal Five’, but whenever it is released, it will be available on DC Universe the same day as DVD/Blu-Ray.
