Disney Announces Delay in Release of ‘Black Panther’ Sequel, ‘Doctor Strange 2’ and More

Disney has announced a delay in the release of multiple Marvel films that are slated to come out over the course of 2022 and 2023. The first major change we see is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness being delayed about a month and a half, thus pushing the films with a following release date about the same. While this news may seem shocking, sources at Deadline claim this is not the result of any major problems, however, is the result of the fact that”some titles are contending with finishing scenarios while others are in production.” That being said, these delays are only for the films that are scheduled to be released and appear to have no effect on the streaming series at Disney+. Disney Announces Release Dates For The Next Three Years-Worth Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe

As part of its massive announcement of its updated release schedule, Disney announced when to expect the next Marvel Cinematic Universe films for the next three years. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously stated that the studio had a five-year plan in place, but that everything was being kept under wraps (as all things Marvel tend to be) at least until after the release of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ in July. RELATED: Marvel Studios Has Released An Official Timeline Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe It has become the norm to release three Marvel movies a year, including the ‘Spider-Man’ flicks, which are co-produced with Sony. (That does not include Sony-only projects like ‘Venom’, and the upcoming ‘Morbius’ scheduled for July 20202.) But there are only two pictures slated for 2020, with three each arriving in 2021 and 2022. A sequel to ‘Doctor Strange’ was a given, and there has been chatter about it over the past few months. But with Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Stephen Strange dead (*wink!*) and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ coming up, any upcoming Marvel projects beyond ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ are top secret. But first of all, Marvel has to have SOMETHING coming up for next year, even if we don’t know what it is. And a sequel to ‘Doctor Strange’ seems due. With the behind-the-scenes buzz about it, it’s logical that this will be one of the next Marvel movies, if they get crackin’. (That is, if they’re not already crackin’ in secret. Benedict Wong implied that shooting might have begun last year!) Now, director Scott Derrickson, who helmed the first ‘Doctor Strange’ and is confirmed to return for the sequel, tweeted a ‘Strange’-themed message… then deleted it. But the account SuperheroPoll! Plus+ captured the message, which featured a comic illustration of Strange drowning, with Namor the Sub-Mariner swimming up behind him. Benedict Wong Teases That ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Could Begin Filming This Year

Benedict Wong appeared at Fan Expo in Vancouver this weekend, to promote his upcoming series on Syfy, ‘Deadly Class’, but considering that he has a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, of course, questions about that arose from the crowd. Wong disclosed a tidbit that wasn’t too spoiler-y– that he had filmed scenes for ‘Avengers 4’. Even though in ‘Infinity War’, Wong peaced-out before the big confrontation with Thanos, in order to guard the Sanctum Sanctorum, there is expected to be a time jump of sorts at the beginning of ‘Avengers 4’. With Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) MIA, it’s likely that defending the Earth from mystical threats fell to Wong. But it appears that this might not be all the Wong that fans will get next year. Benedict Wong is coy in his fate after #AvengersInfinityWars but said he did film stuff for the sequel. Is Scott Derrickson Working On ‘Doctor Strange 2’?

With ‘Doctor Strange‘ having faded from existence with the other half of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’ after the close of ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ it hasn’t been clear if there would be a sequel but a new post from director Scott Derrickson hints that it could be coming. Currently, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ is in the works and we already know that most of the characters will likely be making a comeback, so it isn’t too far-fetch to believe Strange is one of those that’ll be returning for more. This is just speculation based on an Instagram post by the director: “Not my will, but thine be done…” See you in September. Marvel Isn’t Announcing Their Phase 4 Plans Until After ‘Avengers 4’

You may have heard that Marvel Studios is skipping their customary presentation in Hall H at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. As explained by studio president and Marvel Cinematic Universe architect Kevin Feige, the reasons for this break from tradition are largely logistical. In the past, the Hall H presentation has primarily been a vehicle for two things: film announcements and trailer debuts. But by the time SDCC rolls around, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp‘ will have been released, rounding out this year’s Marvel slate. Of next year’s films, ‘Captain Marvel‘ will have only just finished filming and the cameras will have only just started rolling on the next ‘Spider-Man’ film. In other words, there will be nothing ready to show from those films. Add that to the intense secrecy surrounding ‘Avengers 4’ and you begin to see the problem. How do you fill an hour under those circumstances without tipping your hand at least a little? Well, there had been some speculation that Marvel would announce their Phase 4 slate at the convention. Screenwriter C. Robert Cargill Reveals Which Villains Will Be In ‘Doctor Strange 2’

All eyes are on ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ right now, which features the return of Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Doctor Stephen Strange, who headlined his own film in 2016 and cameoed in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ last year. Since nearly every Marvel movie gets a couple of sequels, it’s only a matter of time before Cumberbatch gets to fly solo again. And the filmmakers behind the first film, director Scott Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill, already have plans for who the Sorcerer Supreme will square off against. Cargill recently stated that should the same creative team return, “Nightmare will be the villain.” Nightmare is the demonic ruler of the Dream Dimension, who was first introduced in ‘Strange Tales’ #10 in 1963. But as you may recall, ‘Doctor Strange’ laid the foundation for Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s Baron Mordo to head down the villainous path. Benedict Cumberbatch Doesn’t Know When ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Will Film

With Benedict Cumberbatch set to make his third appearance as Doctor Strange (following the character’s eponymous solo film and a cameo in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’) in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, it’s more or less a given that we’ll be seeing more of the Sorcerer Supreme. But when? While the character has certainly been making his share of team-up appearances since his debut, there’s been little word on when we might finally see ‘Doctor Strange 2’. Interestingly, Cumberbatch himself may be just as much in the dark as the rest of us. Asked by Entertainment Weekly about the plans for his solo sequel (particularly when it might film), the actor gave a surprising response: “Not at the moment, no. The master plan is continually in flux, so it would be out of order for me to speculate.” While it’s certainly possible that a ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel has yet to be scheduled, we should also keep in mind that this may just as easily be a matter of what Cumberbatch is allowed to say publicly. Scott Derrickson Wants To Get Strange Again With ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Translating the Sorcerer Supreme to the big screen was no easy task but director Scott Derrickson (‘Sinister’) made ‘Doctor Strange‘ a fun romp into the realm of mysticism and now it looks like he will be returning for the sequel! Marvel Studios loves having new directors on projects but have shown that they also love to have successful ones return for sequels, so it is par for the course that Derrickson will be here for round 2. While the movie isn’t likely to be released until 2020 at this point, that actually might be a boon for Derrickson as we also had just learned that he is attached to direct Hulu’s ‘Locke & Key’ adaptation. While Marvel hasn’t officially announced ‘Doctor Strange 2’ quite yet, we do know that Benedict Cumberbatch is returning to the role sooner than later. As the original three Avengers all have their contracts coming up, Marvel Studios needs fresh blood for their stand alone films.
