Disney Announces Delay in Release of ‘Black Panther’ Sequel, ‘Doctor Strange 2’ and More

Disney has announced a delay in the release of multiple Marvel films that are slated to come out over the course of 2022 and 2023. The first major change we see is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness being delayed about a month and a half, thus pushing the films with a following release date about the same. While this news may seem shocking, sources at Deadline claim this is not the result of any major problems, however, is the result of the fact that”some titles are contending with finishing scenarios while others are in production.” That being said, these delays are only for the films that are scheduled to be released and appear to have no effect on the streaming series at Disney+. Ryan Coogler Has Just Started Mapping Out The Story For ‘Black Panther 2’

‘Black Panther’ was the highest-grossing solo Marvel Studios film, so a huge number of fans are chomping at the bit for a sequel. Unfortunately, we’re all in for a wait. ‘Black Panther 2’ was not among the pictures announced at San Diego Comic-Con, which outlined the studio’s output for 2020-21. However, director Ryan Coogler did appear at the D23 Expo to announce that the sequel will arrive on May 6, 2022. That means that ‘Black Panther 2’ probably won’t begin filming until 2021. During a cover story for the Wall Street Journal, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that Coogler was “just beginning the process of outlining the story.” Coogler co-wrote the screenplay for the first with Joe Robert Cole, but so far, it is believed that Coogler will be tackling the sequel alone. Danai Gurira Knows She Is In ‘Black Panther 2’, But That’s It

Though it wasn’t announced as part of Marvel Studios’ Phase Four, we all know that ‘Black Panther 2’ is in the works and that director Ryan Coogler is confirmed to be coming back. After all, the first ‘Black Panther’ is the highest-grossing movie from Marvel Studios featuring a solo lead character, and it has been the most rewarded of any superhero movie, earning three Oscars among other accolades. Danai Gurira confirmed to MTV that she will return in the followup as General Okoye, leader of Wakanda’s elite all-female Dora Milaje corps. However, that is the extent of her knowledge of the sequel. As she stated: “Listen, listen… literally, I have no information, that’s the beauty of our conversation right now. Mr. Coogler says, ‘Tell them we’re working hard, and you’re in it.’ That’s all I got for you [laughs].” In addition to kicking ass in ‘Black Panther’, Gurira’s Okoye has returned for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which just became the highest-grossing movie of all time. Fans around the world are excited about ‘Black Panther 2‘ and one popular rumor is that they’ve found a way to bring back Michael B. Jordan‘s take on N’Jadaka/Erik “Killmonger” Stevens. Marvel Studios has found a slew of creative ways to bring characters back over the years, and with the introduction of Wakanda‘s Ancestral Plane, he could even return without being alive. With ‘Black Widow’ reportedly now filming in Norway, it appears that the next Marvel Studios production is set to ramp up. Last month, Sydney’s Morning Herald reported that ‘Shang-Chi’ would film in the area, bringing with it 4,700 new jobs. Now Charles Murphy, host of the Murphy’s Law Podcast, reports that Marvel Studios is beginning the casting process for a film to shoot in Australia that he believes is ‘Shang-Chi’, and that production will begin later this year. Disney Announces Release Dates For The Next Three Years-Worth Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe

As part of its massive announcement of its updated release schedule, Disney announced when to expect the next Marvel Cinematic Universe films for the next three years. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously stated that the studio had a five-year plan in place, but that everything was being kept under wraps (as all things Marvel tend to be) at least until after the release of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ in July. RELATED: Marvel Studios Has Released An Official Timeline Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe It has become the norm to release three Marvel movies a year, including the ‘Spider-Man’ flicks, which are co-produced with Sony. (That does not include Sony-only projects like ‘Venom’, and the upcoming ‘Morbius’ scheduled for July 20202.) But there are only two pictures slated for 2020, with three each arriving in 2021 and 2022. Letitia Wright Will Be Back For ‘Black Panther 2’ And ‘Avengers 4’

The fate of Letitia Wright‘s Shuri wasn’t clear at the end of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ as we never saw if she had gone the way of her brother when Thanos snapped his fingers, but we’ve it’s now been confirmed that the actress will be reprising her role in both ‘Avengers 4‘ and ‘Black Panther 2.’ While that doesn’t clarify if she survived the snap or was turned to dust, there have been plenty of hints that we’d see her in the upcoming film working with Tony Stark, so this isn’t all that surprising. Wakanda Forever: Ryan Coogler Has Officially Signed On To Write And Direct ‘Black Panther 2’

It’s official! Ryan Coogler quietly signed a deal with Marvel Studios “some time ago” to return to write and direct a sequel to his $1.3 billion smash ‘Black Panther’. After this Marvel milestone opened so amazingly, there was never any question as to whether or not there would be a sequel, but in this case, Marvel really wanted to keep the creative team as intact as possible for the follow-up. Though no details were revealed, it would make sense that Coogler would negotiate for a bigger paycheck. After all, until ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, ‘Black Panther’ reigned as Marvel’s top-grossing film. Coogler is reportedly going to begin working on the script next year, with an eye on production beginning either in late 2019 or in early 2020. From that point, it will most likely be about a year before it hits theaters. Hopefully, fans can be patient. In the meantime, Coogler is lined up to direct the true story, ‘Wrong Answer’, with his frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan (Erik Stevens a.k.a. Killmonger). Marvel Isn’t Announcing Their Phase 4 Plans Until After ‘Avengers 4’

You may have heard that Marvel Studios is skipping their customary presentation in Hall H at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. As explained by studio president and Marvel Cinematic Universe architect Kevin Feige, the reasons for this break from tradition are largely logistical. In the past, the Hall H presentation has primarily been a vehicle for two things: film announcements and trailer debuts. But by the time SDCC rolls around, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp‘ will have been released, rounding out this year’s Marvel slate. Of next year’s films, ‘Captain Marvel‘ will have only just finished filming and the cameras will have only just started rolling on the next ‘Spider-Man’ film. In other words, there will be nothing ready to show from those films. Add that to the intense secrecy surrounding ‘Avengers 4’ and you begin to see the problem. Whether you’ve just seen ‘Black Panther’ for the first time or you’re revisiting it to prep for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, you’re probably having the same thought: “How long do I have to wait for a sequel?” Well, we’ll get to see more of T’Challa and company when ‘Infinity War’ arrives this weekend, but a proper sequel? As in ‘Black Panther 2’? While there’s no firm date (or even a publicly stated release window) just yet, we can probably expect a wait of at least two years based on the timing of Marvel’s past sequels. Of course, there is another factor to take into consideration here. That, of course, is the creative alchemy that produced such a resonant film in the first place, and one of the most important pieces of this particular puzzle is director Ryan Coogler.
