Lots of sci-fi movie fans are, in a word, excited about this summer’s impending release of ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.’ Based on the series of French graphic comics novels first published in 1967 under the title ‘Valerian and Laureline,’ director Luc Besson has long wanted to bring the property to the big-screen.
Besson, of course, is no stranger to lavish-looking sci-fi film experiences. Having helmed last year’s ‘Lucy‘ and 1997’s ground-breaking and much-adored visual feast ‘The Fifth Element,’ anticipation is understandably high for Besson to deliver the goods.
The final trailer for the film has officially landed, and it is, as one would expect, an eyeful. Take a good look for yourself (and don’t be ashamed if you need to watch it a few times through to take it all in)!

In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha—an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.
‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ will debut in American theaters on July 21, 2017.
