‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’ might be getting respectable. (Or maybe not.) Distinguished actor Holland Taylor has been added to the cast as the Great Leader, who is described as “the most powerful person in the universe — the center of which is San Dimas, Calif., 700 years in the future.” In addition, the film has also added Kristen Schaal as Kelly, a messenger from the future.
Dean Parisot is directing this sequel from a script by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who worked on the original ‘Bill & Ted’ flicks. Obviously, Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves are returning after nearly 30 years, as Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan. Hal Landon Jr. returns as Ted’s father, Chet Logan, while William Sadler, who played Death in ‘Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey’, is also back.

Erinn Hayes will portray Ted’s wife, Princess Elizabeth, while Brigette Lundy-Paine plays their daughter Billie. Bill’s wife, Princess Joanna, will be portrayed by Jayma Mays, with Samara Weaving, as their daughter Thea. Beck Bennett portrays Ted’s brother, Deacon, with Anthony Carrigan as the film’s villain, and Kid Cudi a.k.a. Scott Mescudi in a mystery role. Jillian Bell will portray the couple’s therapist for both Bill and Ted.
Taylor has had a long career stretching back to the sixties, on soap operas like ‘Beacon Hill’ and ‘The Edge of Night’. Nowadays, she may be best known for playing Evelyn Harper on ‘Two and a Half Men’, Professor Stromwell in ‘Legally Blonde’ or the Grandmother in the ‘Spy Kids’ franchise. Most recently, she starred as Ida Silver on ‘Mr. Mercedes’.

Schaal is best known as a voice performer and can be heard as Trixie in ‘Toy Story 4’, Louise on ‘Bob’s Burgers’, and multiple characters on ‘BoJack Horseman’, among others. She also plays Carol Pilbasian on ‘Last Man on Earth’ and Tina on the Australian sitcom ‘Squinters’.
Following 1989’s ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ and 1991’s ‘Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey’, the stakes are higher than ever for William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. (Winter) and Ted “Theodore” Logan (Reeves). Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe. Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends, and a few music legends.
‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’ is due in theaters on August 21, 2020.
