Variety reports that Sophia Di Martino is in talks to join the cast of Marvel Studios/Disney+’s ‘Loki’ series. No specifics were given, but it just so happens that word has emerged that the show will include the female incarnation of Loki. There’s no guarantee that Di Martino will play the feminized version of Tom Hiddleston, but the timing is awfully coincidental. And while Di Martino’s casting looks to be a lock, the idea that ‘Loki’ will include the trickster’s female form is just a RUMOR for now.
Unlike the female version of Thor, “Loki, Goddess of Lies” as she is billed in the comics, is the same person as the traditional male Loki, just in the form of a woman. Initially, he possessed the form of Lady Sif, who was played by Jamie Alexander in the first two Thor movies, and later the Scarlet Witch, whom Elizabeth Olsen portrays in the films. Obviously, if they are casting a new actor to portray Loki’s female form, they are deviating from the comics. (But how cool would it have been to bring Jamie Alexander back as the female Loki to face off against Natalie Portman as the female Thor/Jane Foster?)

The ‘Loki’ TV series is expected to follow the trickster god as he teleports throughout time. Reportedly, he will witness important moments in history, and may be “an unlikely influencer” on events.
So… basically Forest Gump.
Marvel Studios chief and Marvel CCO Kevin Feige recently disclosed that ‘Loki’ will help set up the events of ‘Doctor Strange in the Madness of the Multiverse’, along with fellow Disney+ series ‘WandaVision’.
Most recently, Di Martino was seen in the film ‘Yesterday’. Previously, she co-starred on the British series ‘Flowers’ (available in the US via Netflix), and appeared on ‘Into the Badlands’.
‘Loki’ was created for TV by Michael Waldron (‘Rick & Morty’). Production is expected to begin in early 2020, with the show set to arrive on Disney+ in late 2021. There will be six episodes.
