It will almost assuredly be a trivia question years from now: who was the first character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to get a fourth solo film? The answer, of course, will be Thor Odinson, and the film will be the movie that’s next headed to cinemas for audiences to enjoy: ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’ The impending superhero film comes with a few twists and “extras,” however. The story will see not only Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the iconic God of Thunder, but Natalie Portman also returns to the franchise – not just as mild-mannered human scientist and Thor’s love interest, Jane Foster, but ALSO as The Might Thor, wielding the reconstructed Mjolnir hammer and sporting some serious superhero(ine) cred of her own. Oh, and the fan-favorite Guardians of the Galaxy also feature in the film. There should be a lot to take in from this one! Disney Chooses To Bring ‘Black Widow’ To Digital Release Early, Adds 9 Deleted Scenes

‘Black Widow’ marked the triumphant return to theaters for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the film has seen its box office take decline sharply in the weeks since its opening. Possibly as a result of this, Disney today has announced that they are bumping up the digital release of the films across the various platforms; this, of course, is not to be confused with the “Premiere Early Access” that Disney+ subscribers can pay for to have access to the film via their account already. The digital release is now coming in just a few weeks, on August 10th. The film’s physical release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD will follow on September 14th. Both digital and physical releases will feature a large amount of extra content, including a blooper reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and nine deleted scenes for fans to enjoy. After the strangeness of 2020 and its impact on movies and the entertainment world in general, the release slate for the second half of this year is, to put it mildly, jam-packed. Several films that were meant to make their cinematic debut last year were bumped back – in some cases several times – and in 2021, movie-goers will finally get to see many of these delayed offerings. It makes for a very busy time, and for franchises, it means that many releases are coming to audiences much closer together on the calendar than they normally would. The perfect example of this is with the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe; between the scheduled US openings of ‘Black Widow’ on July 9 of this year and ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ on July 8, 2022, there are a whopping 7 MCU films coming to the big screens, averaging out to a new Marvel movie less than every other month. Thanks to the fine folks as Disney+, we were granted early access to the first three episodes of the first-ever MCU TV series, ‘WandaVision.’ This is a spoiler-free over-arching review, as we would never want to intentionally spoil anything for our readers! You’ll find individual reviews of Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3 here on ScienceFiction.com, as they become available to the public. The first thing that jumps out at the viewer upon engaging with the new series is that this is definitely NOT your typical entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s no secret that the previews have shown the episodes with a decidedly “classic TV sitcom” type of vibe, and this is the general format that the show follows, with each episode “taking place” in a different chronological sitcom era, progressing forward through time (at least, through the first trio of episodes, anyhow); the first episode is set in a 1950s type of ‘I Love Lucy’ vibe, with episode two wandering into the ‘Bewitched’ feel of the 1960s, and the third episode moves things smoothly into the 1970s, with some of the televised technological advances that came with that era. Benedict Cumberbatch Is Officially Bringing Doctor Strange To ‘Spider-Man 3’

Things just keep getting more interesting for the next film installment of everyone’s friendly neighborhood web-slinger. Hot on the heels of the recent news that Jamie Foxx will be reprising his franchise-jumping role of Electro in ‘Spider-Man 3,’ news has broken today that Benedict Cumberbatch will appear as Doctor Strange in the film as well – and his appearance could potentially serve as an explanation of sorts for Electro’s presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Foxx’s Electro appeared once on-screen, in 2014’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ This, of course, is not the direct sequel to the upcoming Spider-Man film, but rather the end of Sony’s failed attempt to bring Spidey back to the big screen with Andrew Garfield in the lead role. Sony does still own the rights to Spider-Man and related characters, but they have struck a deal with Marvel to incorporate the hero, now portrayed on-screen by Tom Holland, into the MCU. The deal was at risk of expiring late last year, but the two companies worked it out, and Marvel is now set to produce ‘Spider-Man 3,’ the first film in this trilogy which they will be so doing. Jonathan Majors Cast In ‘Ant-Man 3’ As A Classic Marvel Villain

shutterstock A star who is significantly on the rise, Jonathan Majors has been cast in the forthcoming ‘Ant-Man 3,’ one of the next installments in the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel itself has not confirmed which role Majors will play, but Deadline reports confidently via “sources close to the project” that he will play the iconic villain Kang the Conqueror. Created by legendary Marvel Comics powerhouses Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Kang made his first appearance in 1964 in ‘The Avengers’ comic-book series and has had a long and illustrious career of tormenting pretty much every major Marvel hero and team, including the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Inhumans, and the X-Men. Here’s the character’s brief description from Wikipedia: Kang the Conqueror is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. It’s a great day for the LGBTQ community with the news of the first gay kiss in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and on Valentine’s Day no less! The details of this huge moment in Marvel movie history came from a recent interview with actor Haaz Sleiman. Last August, it was confirmed by Marvel Studios Kevin Feige that ‘The Eternals’ would feature a gay couple. Feige described the super-powered character by saying, “He’s married, he’s got a family and that is just part of who he is.” In an interview with Logo, Lebanese-American actor Haaz Sleiman, who proudly identifies as “a gay, Muslim, Arab American man,” revealed that he will star in the upcoming superhero flick ‘The Eternals’ as one half of Marvel’s first openly gay couple. We’ve all been waiting to see the return of Loki in his own series on Disney+ and the recent Super Bowl 2020 ad for the streaming service did just that. Now, Marvel has released a synopsis which has given a few new key details for the show. You can read the first official synopsis below! In Marvel Studios’ new series, the mercurial villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston) resumes his role as the God of Mischief in a new series that takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. This fall we’ll finally see the first Marvel series to emerge on Disney+ with ‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier‘ and Sebastian Stan has revealed a new behind-the-scenes image from the show. Fans are eager to see Stan and Anthony Mackie return to help continue on the legacy of Captain America, and if you haven’t been paying attention, the show has a few other major returning characters as well! Not only is Emily VanCamp back as Sharon Carter, but they’ll be up against Daniel Brühl, who is reprising his role as Zemo. Disney+ is preparing to launch a slew of new shows which take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Tom Hiddleston has given a new behind-the-scenes look a how he’s been preparing his return as ‘Loki.’ While this is cool to see, I won’t lie that it isn’t quite as exciting as the brief snippet from the series that Disney+ aired during Super Bowl 2020. While the God of Lies won’t be the same incarnation that we’ve come to know and love – as this one hasn’t gone through all the events from ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, or his death in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ – this version is a Loki who has yet to be redeemed. On top of that, since this will be Loki we saw escape in ‘Endgame, he will be carrying an Infinity Stone at the start of the series. Don’t Expect Anyone Else To Get The Stan Lee Cameo Treatment In Future Marvel Films

One of the standout features in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and all other Marvel films, has been the inclusion of Stan Lee cameos. However, you shouldn’t think that Marvel Studios will allow for anything like this to happen again. I’m glad that they’ve decided to officially make this decision that Stan “The Man” Lee is the only one who is going to have this kind of continuous cameo. Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Production Victoria Alonso spoke to the Miami Latin News late last year near the tail end of the “We Love You 3000” tour to explain: “Stan Lee is not replaceable. So we will never try. That is the legend, the man, we will never try to replace him. Other people will come around, and then you have someone as phenomenally creative as [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige, but there’s only one Stan Lee.” Say what you will about how he conducted his business years back, Lee is an icon for Marvel fans. James Marsden may not have been the last actor to play a live-action Cyclops but he was the first that mattered. Fox introduced Marsden to the world as Scott Summers in 2000, and the actor reprised the role several times before his final outing in 2014’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ Between those films, we also met Tye Sheridan as a younger version of the character in 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ briefly Tim Pocock also played a younger Cyclops in the movie we’d all like to forget: 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’ While multiple actors have played the iconic mutant, Marsden is the actor most audiences associate with the role. It seems like a no-brainer that Marvel Studios would want to bring one of the team’s most important X-Men member into the MCU, so with that in mind, Marsden has some great advice to whoever next wears the visor: “The biggest challenge was that, the audience and other actors never being able to see your eyes. Marvel Reportedly Has 2 More Disney+ Shows In The Works

Now take this with a grain of salt as Disney and Marvel Studios have yet to confirm this but Bleeding Cool is reporting that they have an inside source who has confirmed that two more Marvel shows are coming to Disney+. This news is coming from their source has given them a few major scoops in the past, such as the ‘Inhumans’ movie being scrapped, Quicksilver dying in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, and the budget of the final two “Avengers” movies. As Marvel Studios will be pushing forward with more shows on Disney+, that isn’t a big surprise. However, the source stated that one of these two shows would be based on the “Secret Invasion” story arc, while another would involve a significant character from the MCU. Let’s take a look at a “Secret Invasion” series first. Gabriel Luna was introduced as the modern take of Marvel’s Ghost Rider in ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and almost landed a television series of his own. In fact, one was announced at Hulu before it was pulled from the schedule and left the character in limbo. Luna has always been interested in continuing the character, but it sounds that the long delay and series cancellation has left a bitter taste in his mouth.
