It will almost assuredly be a trivia question years from now: who was the first character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to get a fourth solo film? The answer, of course, will be Thor Odinson, and the film will be the movie that’s next headed to cinemas for audiences to enjoy: ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’ The impending superhero film comes with a few twists and “extras,” however. The story will see not only Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the iconic God of Thunder, but Natalie Portman also returns to the franchise – not just as mild-mannered human scientist and Thor’s love interest, Jane Foster, but ALSO as The Might Thor, wielding the reconstructed Mjolnir hammer and sporting some serious superhero(ine) cred of her own. Oh, and the fan-favorite Guardians of the Galaxy also feature in the film. There should be a lot to take in from this one! Scarlet Witch Unleashes The Magic Of The Darkhold On The Marvel Universe

The Darkhold has a long and storied history in the Marvel Universe – both in the comics, where it was first introduced back in June 1972 in the pages of Marvel Spotlight #4, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where it has appeared canonically in ‘WandaVision’ and as well as the tangential TV series ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and ‘Runaways.’ Before we see the book next on-screen – likely in next year’s ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ – this Fall, Marvel Comics will feature the dark tome in a series of one-shot special-issue stories, featuring characters from across the pages of the company’s various titles. Written by long-time comics writer Steve Orlando, the tale will start with the self-titled Darkhold Alpha #1 before moving from character to character via their own special issues. Details of the story are being kept mostly under wraps, but Marvel does tell us that both the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom will try (and apparently fail to some degree) to contain the Darkhold from wreaking it’s magical destruction across the Marvel Universe. Thanks to the fine folks as Disney+, we were granted early access to the first three episodes of the first-ever MCU TV series, ‘WandaVision.’ This is a spoiler-free over-arching review, as we would never want to intentionally spoil anything for our readers! You’ll find individual reviews of Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3 here on ScienceFiction.com, as they become available to the public. The first thing that jumps out at the viewer upon engaging with the new series is that this is definitely NOT your typical entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s no secret that the previews have shown the episodes with a decidedly “classic TV sitcom” type of vibe, and this is the general format that the show follows, with each episode “taking place” in a different chronological sitcom era, progressing forward through time (at least, through the first trio of episodes, anyhow); the first episode is set in a 1950s type of ‘I Love Lucy’ vibe, with episode two wandering into the ‘Bewitched’ feel of the 1960s, and the third episode moves things smoothly into the 1970s, with some of the televised technological advances that came with that era. Marvel Is Looking To Oscar Isaac To Be MCU’s Moon Knight

In a new announcement, Deadline is reporting that Oscar Isaac is in negotiations with Disney/Marvel to portray the lead character in a Disney+ TV series ‘Moon Knight.’ The show’s story line will be developed by Jeremy Slater, who will also serve as lead writer for the show; Slater is best known to genre fans as the writer of Netflix’s ‘The Umbrella Academy’ series, in addition to having the dubious honor of being the original writer of the (admittedly heavily rewritten) 2015 ‘Fantastic Four’ and 2017 ‘Death Note’ films. For those unfamiliar with the character of Moon Knight, here’s part of his bio, from the Marvel website: Born to a respectable family, but eschewing its history and beliefs Marc Spector cut his own path through life by becoming a boxer, a Marine, and finally a CIA operative. Jonathan Majors Cast In ‘Ant-Man 3’ As A Classic Marvel Villain

shutterstock A star who is significantly on the rise, Jonathan Majors has been cast in the forthcoming ‘Ant-Man 3,’ one of the next installments in the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel itself has not confirmed which role Majors will play, but Deadline reports confidently via “sources close to the project” that he will play the iconic villain Kang the Conqueror. Created by legendary Marvel Comics powerhouses Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Kang made his first appearance in 1964 in ‘The Avengers’ comic-book series and has had a long and illustrious career of tormenting pretty much every major Marvel hero and team, including the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Inhumans, and the X-Men. Here’s the character’s brief description from Wikipedia: Kang the Conqueror is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character is most frequently depicted as an opponent of the Avengers. It has been a long road, but ‘The New Mutants’ is going to see the light of day this year finally. The part horror film and part superhero movie has been on the shelves for a couple of years. Now it is set for release and has an honor rarely seen by modern superhero flicks. Entertainment Weekly discussed the X-Men spin-off with director Josh Boone. ‘The New Mutants’ is pulling off something that we haven’t seen very often. Despite what has been rumored in the press, this film is reshoot-free! However, it was a series of fortunate events that led to this unicorn. The production wrapped just as Disney was beginning the takeover of 20th Century Fox, which stuck the mutant story in a bit of a limbo. The coronavirus is slowly creeping its way across the globe. We had better get used to it affecting our everyday lives. Yes, even Disney is going to suffer. Even the thought of the man-made possibly being within the vicinity of a major event is grounds for cancellation. The virus won’t be scaring guests away from parks yet, but it is sending journalists and celebrities home early. The presser was going to feature presentations from an unspecified list of guests. The attendees supposedly included Disney executives and “creative heads.” It would be fair to assume that this meant the team behind ‘The Mandalorian’ and the upcoming Marvel series like ‘WandaVision’. This May, fans of the entire Marvel Universe are in for a treat as writer Kurt Busiek and artist Yildiray Cinar have teamed up to bring ‘The Marvels.’ According to Busiek, fans can look forward to “a smorgasbord of Marvel heroes and history” as this series allows for the ultimate team-up capabilities with every hero and villain at their disposal. The stories will span the entire Marvel era from start to end and can take place in the past or present continuity. Talk about a writer’s playground. Busiek’s initial pitch for the book was “Anyone. Anywhere. Any time.” which is a very evident idea as we learn what is to come. The very first issue will exemplify this concept as Busiek shares it will include “an invasion from orbit, a picnic in Prospect Park, Super Hero sightseeing in Manhattan, the All-Winners Squad in 1947, Reed Richards during his time in military intelligence, cosmic beings beyond space and time,” and more! We knew that ‘New Mutants’ was going to be a horror film and now director Josh Boone has confirmed what inspired his installment in the X-men’ franchise. There were multiple influences involved in bringing the movie to life, but one of the more surprising ones was ‘Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors.’ According to Boone in an interview with Collider: “I’d say biggest influences for this movie were [One Flew Over the] Cuckoo’s Nest, The Shining and Dream Warriors. I do love Dream Warriors, I loved the first [Nightmare on Elm Street] as well, but this is very much a rubber reality horror movie for the first about 75% of the movie, and then it becomes something else. We’ve all been waiting to see the return of Loki in his own series on Disney+ and the recent Super Bowl 2020 ad for the streaming service did just that. Now, Marvel has released a synopsis which has given a few new key details for the show. You can read the first official synopsis below! This fall we’ll finally see the first Marvel series to emerge on Disney+ with ‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier‘ and Sebastian Stan has revealed a new behind-the-scenes image from the show. Fans are eager to see Stan and Anthony Mackie return to help continue on the legacy of Captain America, and if you haven’t been paying attention, the show has a few other major returning characters as well! Not only is Emily VanCamp back as Sharon Carter, but they’ll be up against Daniel Brühl, who is reprising his role as Zemo. Disney+ is preparing to launch a slew of new shows which take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Tom Hiddleston has given a new behind-the-scenes look a how he’s been preparing his return as ‘Loki.’ While this is cool to see, I won’t lie that it isn’t quite as exciting as the brief snippet from the series that Disney+ aired during Super Bowl 2020. While the God of Lies won’t be the same incarnation that we’ve come to know and love – as this one hasn’t gone through all the events from ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, or his death in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ – this version is a Loki who has yet to be redeemed. On top of that, since this will be Loki we saw escape in ‘Endgame, he will be carrying an Infinity Stone at the start of the series. Josh Boone Reveals How ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Failures Influenced ‘New Mutants’

With ‘New Mutants‘ hitting theaters in just a couple of months, director Josh Boone isn’t holding back on why he thinks Fox has been failing with the ‘X-Men’ franchise. It sounds like the issues he believes which caused fans to stop seeing the films in theaters won’t be present in his movie, but with this being the end of the Fox era, this revelation feels like its too little, too late to make a difference. While I’m excited about what ‘New Mutants’ is bringing to the table, this is going to be hard to really get the push to have audiences check it out – especially since Alice Braga seemed to indicate that no reshoots have occurred to incorporate the film into the MCU. One of the standout features in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and all other Marvel films, has been the inclusion of Stan Lee cameos. However, you shouldn’t think that Marvel Studios will allow for anything like this to happen again. I’m glad that they’ve decided to officially make this decision that Stan “The Man” Lee is the only one who is going to have this kind of continuous cameo. Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Production Victoria Alonso spoke to the Miami Latin News late last year near the tail end of the “We Love You 3000” tour to explain: “Stan Lee is not replaceable. So we will never try. That is the legend, the man, we will never try to replace him. Other people will come around, and then you have someone as phenomenally creative as [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige, but there’s only one Stan Lee.” Say what you will about how he conducted his business years back, Lee is an icon for Marvel fans. ‘X-Men’: James Marsden Blasts Out Advice To The Next Actor Who May Play Cyclops In The MCU

James Marsden may not have been the last actor to play a live-action Cyclops but he was the first that mattered. Fox introduced Marsden to the world as Scott Summers in 2000, and the actor reprised the role several times before his final outing in 2014’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ Between those films, we also met Tye Sheridan as a younger version of the character in 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ briefly Tim Pocock also played a younger Cyclops in the movie we’d all like to forget: 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’ While multiple actors have played the iconic mutant, Marsden is the actor most audiences associate with the role. It seems like a no-brainer that Marvel Studios would want to bring one of the team’s most important X-Men member into the MCU, so with that in mind, Marsden has some great advice to whoever next wears the visor: “The biggest challenge was that, the audience and other actors never being able to see your eyes.
