SPOILER ALERT: This article contains MASSIVE SPOILERS for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, so if you haven’t seen it… first of all, what’s wrong with you? But yeah, if you want to avoid SPOILERS, back away now.
Can we just agree that all the characters that turned to dust at the end of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ are safe? I mean, Black Panther, who had the best performance of any solo Marvel hero? Spider-Man, the corporate mascot? Almost ALL of the Guardians of the Galaxy? Yeah, they’re all coming back.
But what about those characters that didn’t appear on-screen in ‘Infinity War’? What happened to them? Shockingly, directors Anthony and Joe Russo came clean with what became of our favorite supporting players.
Nakia and Shuri:
Black Panther was among the beings that got wiped out of existence when Thanos snapped his Infinity Gauntlet. Okoye survived and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let her play a MAJOR role in upcoming movies because she is the awesomest!
But what about T’Challa’s love, Nakia, and genius kid sister Shuri?
When questioned about Nakia, Joe Russo said “She’s on missions.” Anthony added, “Yeah, deep undercover.”
But when it came to Shuri’s fate, the brothers simply replied “Spoiler.” So… that means she’s probably safe, right?
Howard the Duck:
Believe it or not, at one time, Howard the Duck was one of Marvel’s most popular characters and was the first Marvel character EVER to get his own movie. In modern times, the character has popped up in cameo roles in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies. Did Thanos wipe him from existence though?
Joe Russo said, “He survived.”
Jane Foster:
Natalie Portman has been very vocal about the fact that she hates being in the ‘Thor’ movies, so don’t expect her to become a female version of Thor, as the comic book Jane Foster did.
But surprisingly, there may be plans to bring her back in future movies. As Anthony Russo said “When we say spoiler, [we mean] potential spoiler.”
Betty Ross:
“Gone,” Joe said.
Yeah I forgot she existed too. But there are some rights issued with Universal when it comes to the Hulk. Betty’s father, Thunderbolt Ross appeared in both ‘Civil War’ and ‘Infinity War’, but it seems Liv Tyler’s Betty is gone for good.
Korg:
Unfortunately, Joe replied “Spoiler.” But we do know that ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ director Taika Waititi, who voiced Korg in that film, has plans to revisit the character, so let’s just assume he went to the bathroom when Thanos and his followers attacked Thor’s ship and killed nearly everyone inside. So he’s alive.
Sif:
Speaking of Thor and his supporting cast, what the hell happened to Lady Sif? Jaimie Alexander’s character has been absent since ‘Thor” The Dark World’. The Warriors Three were killed in ‘Ragnarok’ and Heimdal died at the start of ‘Infinity War’. Where is Sif?
“Gone,” said Joe.
Looks like Sif will just be a dangling thread from now on.
Ned Leeds:
“Spoiler,” said Joe.
But, Peter Parker/Spider-Man was among those that turned to dust at the end of ‘Infinity War’. I mean… they’re not going to make a Ned Leeds movie. Whether he survived this incident or not, Jacob Batalon’s Ned will be back in the ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ sequel alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
Aunt May:
Speaking of Spider-Man, what became of his doting aunt? Marisa Tomei was a delight in ‘Civil War’ and ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and after her “What the *BLEEP*” reaction in ‘Homecoming’ you know they’re going to bring her back. Anthony agreed, stating that she was “Safe.”
There was no mention of supporting characters for Ant-Man, but he will next appear in his own movie ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’. There was also no mention of Hawkeye‘s family, but he is expected to return in ‘Avengers 4’.
