It will be a good time to see movies starting next week as Lionsgate and Warner Bros. have announced some big news for movie goers!
‘The Hunger Games’ IMAX News
First off, if you’ve already seen ‘The Hunger Games’ and missed seeing it in IMAX the first and only week it was shown in IMAX theaters, then you’re in luck! Lionsgate and the IMAX Corporation has announced that the film will play for a special one week return engagement in over 100 IMAX theaters across North America starting next weekend. According to Lionsgate, the move was brought about due to popular demand from fans of the movie. “It’s wonderful that so many fans have expressed interest in seeing ‘The Hunger Games’ in the immersive IMAX format, and many of these are repeat viewers,” said Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group Co-Chair Rob Friedman, adding “We’re delighted that IMAX has been able to accommodate them through this special one week re-engagement.”
‘The Hunger Games’ has already grossed over $533 million worldwide since its release on March 23rd with $13.2 million of that from its original 1 week IMAX run. So if you wish you could have been there with Katniss as she maneuvered through the woods, then you can get that chance when the movie returns to IMAX theaters starting April 27 through May 3.
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Trailer News
After May 3rd, movie goers will finally get their chance to see Marvel superheroes assemble together when ‘The Avengers’ opens in theaters on May 4th. But that won’t be the only treat they’ll get as Warner Bros. has announced that the third trailer for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ will be shown before the movie!
Although it may seem odd that a DC superhero trailer plays along with a Marvel movie considering the rivalry that exists, it’s not the first time the two have been paired up. Back in 2008, ‘The Dark Knight’ trailer played before showings of ‘Iron Man.’ The pairing is actually a good strategic movie as a Warner Bros. exec explains, “We always want our trailers to be seen with films that people want to see – and a lot of people will be going to ‘The Avengers!’…It will provide the best potential exposure for TDKR. It’s a big positive for everyone!”
It will definitely be a big positive for everyone as fans of the Dark Knight may come to see the trailer and watch ‘The Avengers’ when they may not have wanted to do so before, and fans of ‘The Avengers’ may just put ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ on their list of movies to see after seeing the trailer.
Either way, both movies are expected to be big blockbusters and the move is a great way to bring in more money to the box office. So, if you weren’t planning on going to see ‘The Avengers’ (yes, believe it or not, there are some of you out there), would you go now knowing ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ trailer will be playing?
