Disney fans have a lot to be happy about in 2018, as two of their most beloved films are getting sequels– ‘The Incredibles’ and ‘Wreck-It Ralph’. Luckily for fans of ‘Ralph’, they didn’t have to wait 14 years! The first ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ came out in 2012, so now just six years later, the sequel is set to arrive and while the first movie lampooned famous arcade and console games, the sequel will get timely with a spoof on apps. As you can see in the concept art above, the square-headed avatars populating the new film seem to be a direct swipe at Minecraft. What other targets will pop up in the film? This new synopsis may shed some light on that:
“Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind,
venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet – which
may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly)
and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all
by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s
video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the
citizens of the internet – the netizens – to help navigate their way, including a website
entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and
the heart and soul of trend-making website “Buzztube.”
Yes the core cast of the first movie are back: John C. Reilly as Ralph, Sarah Silverman as Vanellope, Jack McBrayer as Fix-It Felix and Jane Lynch as Sargent Calhoun, while ‘Empire’ star Taraji P. Henson joins as Internet taste-maker Yesss. Rich Moore, director of the first ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ returns, this time joined by Phil Johnston, who penned the scripts for both installments.
It appears that one game that may be parodied in this film is ‘Disney Infinity’ as a slew of Disney princesses and other characters are slated to make an appearance, with their famous voices intact. ‘Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2’ features Irene Bedard as Pocahontas, Kristen Bell as Anna, Jodi Benson as Ariel, Auli’i Cravalho as Moana, Jennifer Hale as Cinderella, Kate Higgins as Aurora, Linda Larkin as Jasmine, Kelly Macdonald as Merida, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Paige O’Hara as Belle, Anika Noni Rose as Tiana, Katherine Von Till as Snow White and Ming-Na Wen as Mulan. But the princesses aren’t the only Disney denizens to get into the game in this movie. Look for cameos by Pluto (voiced by Bill Farmer) and none other than C-3PO, voiced by the esteemed Anthony Daniels. Alan Tudyk and James Corden are providing undisclosed voices. The movie doesn’t come out until November, so more cameos may be revealed before then.
Are you excited to see how Ralph wrecks the Internet? Are there any apps you want to see trashed? (Farmville, for instance? I mean… that’s just a thought off the top of my head.)
‘Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2’ directed by Phil Johnston and Rich Moore, starring John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch and Taraji P. Henson, opens on November 21, 2018, one week after ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ and one week before ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’. Can it level up over these other family films?
