Dove Cameron may no longer be starring on the Disney Channel’s ‘Liv and Maddie’, but she is staying within the Disney family, with a role on ABC’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’. Cameron will play “Ruby, a young woman of cunning intelligence who has a mysterious obsession with Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) — oh, and she’s the daughter of General Hale (Catherine Dent).” Executive producer Jed Whedon said, “The role she’s playing, she’s not an obvious fit for.”
Cameron teased her appearance on the series, with an Instagram post featuring the cast of the show including Bennet and Clark Gregg who echoes Whedon’s assessment that “Nothing you’ve seen her do will prepare you for what she does on our show. It’s pretty remarkable.” Cameron captioned her video “Coming Soon.”
Dent’s General Hale appeared on two episodes of ‘Agents of SHIELD’ last year. After Fitz (Iain de Caestecker) managed to escape the Blue Raven Ridge facility, Hale executed her two subordinates Lieutenants Evans (Zibby Allen) and Lucas (Joe Layton). She is a high-ranking government agent.
Cameron’s character Ruby makes her debut on the March 2 episode and is slated to appear on five episodes.
Cameron will also provide the voice of Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen on the animated project ‘Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors’. Bennet’s character, Daisy Johnson/Quake is also included in this series. Fellow ‘Agents of SHIELD’ actor Ming-Na Wen will also provide a voice, but it won’t be her usual role as Melinda May, but rather Hala. (Wen provides the voice of Disney’s ‘Mulan’ in various projects as well, including ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2’.) Cameron’s ‘Descendants’ co-star, Booboo Stewart will voice Victor Kohl/Exile.
‘Agents of SHIELD’ airs on ABC on Fridays at 9pm EST.
