Come one, come all, for an all new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! March is coming to a close, and with it the end of the first quarter of the year has ended. As we head into Quarter 2 of 2019 we have a lot to be excited about! This week we have plenty of gorgeous new collectibles to show off from some of our favorite companies including Diamond Select Toys, NECA, McFarlane Toys, and even Dark Horse Direct! C2E2 Reveals From Diamond Select Toys
This past weekend pop culture fans from all over the world gathered in the Chicago, IL to celebrate all of their favorite fandoms at The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, better known as C2E2! Our good friends from Diamond Select Toys were on site as well with a number of fantastic new upcoming items on display at their booth. Some of these items we saw recently at New York Toy Fair, but many of them had never before been shown publicly! While we can’t be 100% sure which lines that the new statues are from, it’s a safe bet that most of them are part of DST’s Gallery line of PVC statues, plus we’ve got new Vinimates, new Kingdom Hearts Select, and D-Formz blindbox vinyl figures! Hasbro Enters The Endgame
Last week we gave you the full run down of the first wave of ‘Avengers’ themed 6″ scale Marvel Legends figures that Hasbro has coming our way this spring, but now we’ve got new images from Hasbro to show off the whole wave! As we told you last week, the wave is a blend of movie styled and comic styled figures, with this assortment we get Ebony Maw from last year’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, plus Captain America and Ronin (aka Hawkeye) from ‘Avengers: Endgame’, as well as comic styled figures of Citizen V, Hercules, Nighthawk, and The Living Laser! This week Hasbro also released new images of their latest Walgreens exclusive Marvel Legends 6″ figure, the Infamous Iron Man! For those who are out of the loop, Infamous Iron Man is actually Victor Von Doom with his own set of Stark armor. This figure is due out later this spring exclusively at Walgreens stores!
NECA Prepares For The Battle Of The Century
NECA has been releasing figures based on our favorite horror properties for years, and this week we have our first look at an all new version of one of horror’s greatest icons with their new ‘Freddy Vs. Jason’ Ultimate Jason Voorhees figure! While this isn’t the first time they’ve done a figure of this version of Jason Voorhees, it’s the first one in quite some time and definitely the first to feature good articulation. This 7″ scale figure features a highly detailed sculpt, three removable interchangeable masks, two machetes (regular and bloody), flame effects, and a teddy bear! Resurrected by Freddy to terrorize the residents of Springwood, Jason begins his murderous rampage again. But when he won’t step aside for Freddy, a terrified town is caught in the middle of their battle!
This new Jason figure is even more sizable than other Ultimate Jason’s, as appropriate for a horror showdown on the movie’s scale. This year NECA has a pretty healthy variety of products hitting the market based on the highly underrated (and undeservedly maligned) ‘ALIEN: Resurrection’, with new figures like Clone Ripley and the Alien Hybrid Newborn coming to stores this summer. Now they’ve announced a new reissue of their fan favorite Xenomorph Queen figure in an all new paint scheme to better reflect it’s appearance in ‘ALIEN Resurrection’, the fourth film in the ‘ALIEN’ franchise. Like with the previous releases, this figure stands around 15″ tall and features 30 points of articulation. The new ‘ALIEN: Resurrection’ Xenomorph Queen is set to release this fall for $120. Things Are Going To Get ‘Stranger’ This Summer
Things are heating up this summer as Netflix’s hit original series ‘Stranger Things’ is preparing for it’s big return on July 4th, 2019! Fans of the cult-favorite retro styled series will be excited to hear that McFarlane Toys is planning a new wave of figures around the new season, and this week they’re giving us our first look at them! The new wave brings us 7″ scale ‘Stranger Things 3’ versions of Eleven and Hopper in all of their mid-80’s glory! SWEP1-The Phantom Menace – 1:6 Qui-Gon Jinn Collectible Figure
A venerable if maverick Jedi Master, Qui-Gon Jinn was a student of the living Force. Qui-Gon lived for the moment, espousing a philosophy of “feel, don’t think — use your instincts.” On Tatooine, Qui-Gon discovered a young slave boy named Anakin Skywalker who was strong in the Force. Sensing the boy’s potential, Qui-Gon liberated Anakin from slavery. The Jedi Master presented Anakin to the Jedi Council, but they deemed the boy too old to begin training and dangerously full of fear and anger. They refused to allow Qui-Gon to train Anakin, but rescinded their decision to fulfill Qui-Gon’s dying wish.
