Anson Mount
Paramount Pictures/CBS All Access

There’s good news if you were a fan of Anson Mount’s performance as Captain Christopher Pike of the starship Enterprise on the second season of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’.  The actor has taken a liking to the character and the franchise and expressed that he would love to return, even if it means a “seven-year commitment,” as one fan cautioned.  Fans have embraced Mount’s Pike, along with Ethan Peck‘s Spock and Rebecca Romijn‘s Number One, who were brought on for the sophomore season of ‘Discovery’, a prequel which takes place years before the original series.  Many are clamoring for these characters to get their own ongoing showcase.

Appearing on stage at Star Trek Las Vegas 2019, Mount shared his awe at the fan reaction to his role as Pike:

Paramount Pictures/CBS All Access

“Look, I have never had a response to anything I have ever done like this. It’s overwhelming. I didn’t expect it. I’m not sure it’s entirely deserved…The writers may have had something to do with it. First of all, thank you. It feels great to be appreciated for what you do, particularly with this fanbase, this family.”

When asked if he would star in a spinoff, he admitted he would:

“Obviously, it’s something I would love to do. It was never on my bucket list because I never thought it is something that could be on my bucket list. It would be wonderful. I love the franchise. I love these people.”

When a fan cautioned him that he would have to “to work for seven seasons,” Mount replied, “From your mouth to CBS’ ears.”

But Mount admitted that the decision wasn’t his to make.  He reminded the audience that CBS All Access and Paramount already have multiple ‘Star Trek’ series in the works, so it remains to be seen whether they will find the time to add another new series to that mix.

As he stated:

“We will see. There are a lot of things going on at that network right now, and within the franchise. And these decisions have to deal with many, many things that float above my pay grade or even outside my realm of knowledge. I am about up-to-date as you guys.”

In the meantime, it is known that Pike will return in an installment of ‘Star Trek: Short Treks’, while Peck’s Spock and Romijn’s Number One will appear in another.  After that?  We’ll see!

Would you like to see Pike return in his own series?
