This should come as no surprise in the slightest but the spectacular Stan Lee is over the moon that Disney was able to buy 20th Century Fox. Doom and gloom about what this could mean to the industry aside, the implications for the geek community is out of this world: A well-made ‘Fantastic Four’ movie, a horde of new cosmic villains, crossovers galore.
The possibilities are endless and clearly nothing will ever be the same! This changes everything about what could happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and here is what Lee thinks about it:
“A truly great piece of news! Now characters such as the X-Men and the Fantastic Four can come home to the place where they belong. It’s vitally important to have the Marvel characters under one roof. And now, as great as they were before, I can’t wait to see the wonders that will unfold!”
We can’t wait either. Ideally, Lee will be able to live long enough see this all come to fruition and cameo in the first film that bridges this buyout. Considering there will likely be 12-18 months before the government even approves this let alone fitting in a merging of these cinematic universes being shoehorned into an already busy production schedule will be tricky, to say the least.
As a bonus, in 2016 Lee sold the rights of a fictionalized version of his life that was a James Bond styled film which took place in the 70s to Fox and this movie can now be released through Disney. Who knows, maybe it can even become official MCU canon with Lee’s character being an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
That could be a fun way to bring a certain Agent Carter back into the mix, especially if we’re already going the fiction route with it anyway.
