YES!  Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.  This is the best casting imaginable!  It has been confirmed that Hailee Steinfeld is in early talks to star opposite Jeremy Renner in the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Hawkeye’, in which Clint Barton will pass the quiver over to a young successor, Kate Bishop.  Steinfeld would play Bishop.

Fans have been longing to see Steinfeld take on the role of a superhero, and she even expressed interest in starring in Warner Bros.’ ‘Batgirl’.  At least she has voiced one Marvel superhero, Gwen Stacy (Spider-Gwen, Ghost-Spider) in the animated ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’.  (Spider-Gwen is even getting her own spinoff movie.)

Steinfeld rose to fame when she was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the western 2010 ‘True Grit’.  Since then, she has starred in the two ‘Pitch Perfect’ sequels, ‘The Edge of Seventeen’, and the vastly underrated ‘Bumblebee’.  She has also been cultivating a singing career, scoring a few hit singles– including “Love Myself”, “Starving,” and “Let Me Go,” and touring with Katy Perry, Meghan Trainor, Niall Horan, and Charlie Puth.  She also contributed to the soundtrack for ‘Bumblebee’.  (Hey, Jeremy Renner is also trying to be a pop star!  Maybe they can make ‘Hawkeye’ a musical!)

There is one major obstacle to her taking on the role of Kate Bishop in ‘Hawkeye’, and that is the fact that she is already signed to star on the Apple TV+ streaming program ‘Dickinson’, as famed author Emily Dickinson.  This is an ongoing series and Apple has to clear her to take on other work, which has not yet happened.  But in this age of streaming, many stars bounce between multiple TV shows, or between TV and movie roles.

‘Hawkeye’ isn’t slated to arrive until 2021, so there is plenty of time to hammer out schedules.  (Plus, not to be cynical, but we don’t know how well Apple TV+ is going to do.  As of right now, it’s possibly the least appealing of the upcoming streaming services that have been announced.)

Kate Bishop was first introduced as the new Hawkeye in 2005’s ‘Young Avengers’ #1, during a time when Clint Barton was dead.  She has gone on to star in the ongoing ‘Hawkeye’ comic book, in which she is mentored by Barton.  She is the new Hawkeye.  He goes by “Hawkguy.”  With her introduction in the ‘Hawkeye’ Disney+ show, Kate is the second Young Avenger to appear in the MCU, after Cassie Lang, played by Emma Fuhrmann, in ‘Avengers: Endgame’.  In the comics, Cassie, the daughter of Scott Lang (Ant-Man/Giant-Man), becomes the size-changing Stature.

How do you feel about Hailee Steinfeld taking on the role of Kate Bishop?
