Make mine Marvel! Laurence Fishburne appears to have adopted that classic slogan, as he is currently lighting up the big screen as Bill Foster in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ after having previously appeared as Perry White in 2013’s ‘Man of Steel’, from Warner Brothers.
In the comics, Bill Foster operated as the hero originally known as Black Goliath, before shortening his name to simply Goliath and sometimes Giant-Man. It’s somewhat doubtful that Fishburne’s Foster will follow those enormous footprints, but he sees himself sticking with Marvel.
But as for his work on the DC films, Fishburne stated:
“I don’t think I’m still on call. I was unfortunately unable to go do some work on what turned out to be the Justice League movie. I don’t know that I need to go back or if they’ll have me back or not, but I was grateful to have been a part of it. I loved working with Zack (Snyder), I think he makes an incredible superhero movie. I’m just excited to be a part of this (the MCU) now… I haven’t heard anything about [‘Man of Steel 2’]. They just fell behind the eight-ball. I really wish they had started 20 years ago. But that’s all right, they’re where they are.
Before playing Perry White, Fishburne had another Marvel Comic role as the voice of the Silver Surfer in the forgettable sequel ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’ produced by 20th Century Fox. With Disney looking to acquire Fox, those characters could be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But it’s pretty much a given that should the Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer be revived, it will be in new forms, with new actors. But Fishburne’s Bill Foster could still be brought back either in a third ‘Ant-Man’ movie or possibly even in a different film.
Fishburne can currently be seen in theaters in the hit ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’.
