It’s been widely rumored that Marvel Studios would be introducing its version of the ‘Fantastic Four’ before the ‘X-Men’, and the latest unconfirmed buzz (courtesy of The GWW) is that Marvel is eyeing 2022 for the release of the new ‘FF’. And if ‘Ant-Man’ helmer Peyton Reed has his way, he will be the one directing. Reportedly, Reed has pitched Kevin Feige on his concept numerous times. Intriguingly, Reed’s pitch is set in the 1960s, the time period in which the FF were first introduced in the comics. His pitch also involves the Quantum Realm, something he knows all about, seeing as how this plot device debuted in his movies, ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, before playing a major role in Joe and Anthony Russo’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Maybe that could create a bridge between a ’60s setting and the present.
It is also rumored that Reed’s idea for the ‘Fantastic Four’ somehow also incorporates the Black Knight! How? Why? Keep in mind, it might not even be true, but for now, it’s an interesting idea. He may not be a major character, but it’s doubtful that Marvel fans would be upset if he were to be introduced in the Cinematic Universe.

For Reed, the ‘Fantastic Four’ is a dream job, and he even actively pursued it when 20th Century Fox had the rights to the characters. As he previously divulged:
“Visually, one of the things we always talked about – and this was 2003 – was The Fantastic Four as daytime superheroes. They don’t have secret identities. They’re very much a part of the fabric of Manhattan. In that universe, if you go to New York to the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty or the Baxter Building, it was all a part of that. We talked about it being a ’60s period movie, but Fox at the time was not into it.”
Fans MAY get some news regarding the ‘Fantastic Four’ this summer, as Marvel is expected to hold a panel at Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con. So much has been kept under wraps when it comes to the Marvel films, that fans really have no clear idea of what to expect in the coming years. This will be a major opportunity to inform fans of where this franchise is headed moving forward.
David Harbour has been cast in the upcoming ‘Black Widow’ movie, and he recently implied that he might be playing a version of Ben Grimm, but… who knows?
