Anthony Mackie Says Marvel Needs More Diversity Behind-The-Cameras

DisneyOne of the biggest hits in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe was 2018’s ‘Black Panther’, which grossed $1.347 billion at the box office, as fans declared, “It’s Not A Movie, It’s A Movement!” And outside of that film, Anthony Mackie has the role of Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon and possibly the next Captain America, while Don Cheadle portrays War-Machine/James Rhodes. But even though Mackie is set to co-headline the Disney+ series ‘Falcon & Winter Soldier’, he thinks Marvel Studios and parent company Disney could do a lot more to increase diversity behind the camera. In a dual interview with ‘Snowpiercer’s Daveed Diggs, Mackie lamented: “When ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ comes out, I’m the lead. When ‘Snowpiercer’ came out, you’re the lead. We have the power and the ability to ask those questions. It really bothered me that I’ve done seven Marvel movies where every producer, every director, every stunt person, every costume designer, every PA, every single person has been white. “We’ve had one Black producer; his name was Nate Moore. He produced ‘Black Panther.’ But then when you do ‘Black Panther,’ you have a Black director, Black producer, a Black costume designer, a Black stunt choreographer. […]

ABC Will Air ‘Celebrating Marvel’s Stan Lee’ Later This Month

Get ready to spend the holidays with Stan “The Man” Lee. ABC will air the special ‘Celebrating Marvel’s Stan Lee’ on December 20. Portions of the special were filmed in front of a live audience, and that footage will be mixed in with archival interviews and footage of the comic book giant, as well as interviews with stars of various Marvel TV shows and movies, and other pop culture figures, all paying their respects to the man who co-created most of the famous characters that populate the Marvel comic books and adaptations. Among the Marvel stars that are confirmed to be included are Tom Hiddleston, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, and Clark Gregg, as well as ‘Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.’s Ming-Na Wen and ‘Daredevil’s Deborah Ann Woll. Panther Pass: Chadwick Boseman Says He Won’t Do A Disney+ Series

Well, it seems that not everyone is all “Rah! Rah! Disney+, YAY!!!” One Marvel star is putting his razor-tipped foot down– Chadwick Boseman. The record-breaking Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding into TV with a series or miniseries starring various actors from the movies in programs that will help better flesh out and advance their characters outside of the crowded ensemble theatrical flicks. When asked by MTV International, if fans could lookout for a ‘Black Panther’ Disney+ series, Boseman replied: “I wouldn’t because I don’t want to do a TV show. I wouldn’t choose one so I can’t answer that. Like, I have a whole list of things that I’m excited about. And so, none of those are franchises.” Before anyone gets all huffy and accuses him of thinking he’s too good for television, there was never going to be a ‘Black Panther’ Disney+ series. Kevin Feige Talks Splitting From Marvel Entertainment And Disney’s Positive Leadership

Changes are coming to the Marvel landscape. About a month ago, it was announced that Kevin Feige has been placed in creative control of all things Marvel– the movies, TV, and even comic books. This comes after Feige helped guide Marvel Studios into the billion-dollar hit-making machine that it is today, with ‘Avengers: Endgame’ clawing its way to become the highest-grossing movie of all time. This, of course, came after Marvel Studios was broken away from Marvel Entertainment whose Isaac Perlmutter was notoriously frugal with budgets and opposed Feige’s vision of diversity. Perlmutter only approved films for ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ in exchange for an ‘Inhumans’ movie that would benefit the TV division, where the Inhumans were incorporated into ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Rather than lose Feige, Disney emancipated the film division, allowing Feige to call his own shots. ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ both got made, and went on to gross over $1 billion each, and ‘Black Panther’ became the first comic book movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. In a movie filled with thrills, one of the most exciting sequences in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ occurred when Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) made her splashy entrance into the final battle. After obtaining the Infinity Gauntlet from Spider-Man, she was ready to take on Thanos, but she needed a little help and she got it, from Gamora, Mantis, Nebula, Okoye, Rescue, Scarlet Witch, Shuri, Valkyrie, and the Wasp. Prior to ‘Endgame’, ‘Captain Marvel’ marked the first solo female movie from Marvel Studios, and it delivered over $1 billion at the global box office. Next year sees the release of ‘Black Widow’, and it’s a given that Larson’s Carol Danvers will be back in a sequel, as will Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp, who co-headlined ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’. Ryan Coogler Has Just Started Mapping Out The Story For ‘Black Panther 2’

‘Black Panther’ was the highest-grossing solo Marvel Studios film, so a huge number of fans are chomping at the bit for a sequel. Unfortunately, we’re all in for a wait. ‘Black Panther 2’ was not among the pictures announced at San Diego Comic-Con, which outlined the studio’s output for 2020-21. However, director Ryan Coogler did appear at the D23 Expo to announce that the sequel will arrive on May 6, 2022. That means that ‘Black Panther 2’ probably won’t begin filming until 2021. During a cover story for the Wall Street Journal, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that Coogler was “just beginning the process of outlining the story.” Coogler co-wrote the screenplay for the first with Joe Robert Cole, but so far, it is believed that Coogler will be tackling the sequel alone. ScreenRant officially reported on the opposition at Marvel Studios for two very important movies to date. I am speaking of the highly successful ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain Marvel’. Both films grossed over $1 billion internationally and were critically well-received. ‘Black Panther,’ in particular, was awarded three Oscars in 2019 – the first for Marvel Studios. Including Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. In his new memoir, ‘The Ride of a Lifetime’, Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke about the “roadblocks” to the production of ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ and addressed the opposition from Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter. “I’ve been in the business long enough to have heard every old argument in the book, and I’ve learned that old arguments are just that: old, and out of step with where the world is and where it should be. We had a chance to make a great movie and to showcase an underrepresented segment of America, and those goals were not mutually exclusive. Just kidding with that “complete” list of movies coming to Disney+ posted back in August. Considering that Disney is boasting that there will be over 300 movies available on opening day, the previous list was… a little short. Most noticeably, it listed that the only Marvel Studios movies that were going to be available on the first day were ‘Captain Marvel’, ‘Iron Man’, ‘Iron Man 3’, and ‘Thor: The Dark World’. Well, relax, ALL of the existing Marvel Studios pictures, including ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ are going to be on Disney+. As you can probably guess, there will be ZERO ‘Spider-Man’ movies, but if it helps, there will be several ‘Spider-Man’ cartoons. D23: Ryan Coogler Reveals ‘Black Panther II’s Release Date

It was obvious that ‘Black Panther’ was getting a sequel. The first film made $1.35 billion at the worldwide box office, and is the highest-grossing of the Marvel solo movies. But the sequel wasn’t among the films that were announced at San Diego Comic-Con, which announced everything coming out in 2020 and 2021, and constitutes Marvel’s Phase 4. But director Ryan Coogler took the stage at the D23 Expo along with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to reveal that ‘Black Panther II’ — which appears to be the sequel’s official name for now — will be released on May 6, 2022. That probably means that it will be the first movie of Phase 5. Coogler co-wrote the first ‘Black Panther’ with Joe Robert Cole, but it appears that he is writing the sequel’s script himself.
