RUMOR ALERT: Take this information with a grain of salt, as it is strictly RUMOR at this point… and it kinda sounds like B.S.

In what looks to be the first major move now that Kevin Feige has been placed in the position of Chief Creative Director of Marvel– over the creative side of all things, comics, TV, and film– ABC’s failed ‘Inhumans’ has (to borrow a term from comics) been retconned out of existence.  New actors are being sought to portray the Inhuman Royal Family on the Disney+ series ‘Ms. Marvel’, which is expected to debut in 2022.  And some of the actors rumored to be under consideration will make you say “Hmmmm.”

The ABC series starred Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Ken Leung as Karnak, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, and Iwan Rheon as Maximus.  The series also included Mike Moh as Triton, Sonya Balmores as Auran, and Ellen Woglom as the Inhumans’ human ally, Louise.

According to GWW, for the role of Black Bolt on ‘Ms. Marvel’, Marvel is allegedly eyeing Vin Diesel.  This is actually a pretty funny idea, seeing as how Diesel is already a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the voice of Groot.  If he were to be cast as Black Bolt, he’d be playing a character that can’t speak because his voice is so powerful that it can shatter mountains.  So he’d have one voice-only role, and one non-speaking role.

Diesel actively campaigned for the role of Black Bolt in the ABC series.  He dodged a bullet by not getting it.

Also, Gemma Chan has become the first actor to have two roles in the MCU (not counting actors who have crossed between the TV shows and movies, as those are generally considered separate).  She portrayed Minn-Erva in this year’s ‘Captain Marvel’, and she is also playing Sersi in next year’s ‘Eternals’.  So performers are no longer limited to just one part in this sprawling franchise.

That also pertains to the other actor that Marvel is allegedly considering for ‘Ms. Marvel’– Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Taylor-Johnson portrayed Wanda Maximoff’s brother Pietro a.k.a. Quicksilver in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.  Unfortunately, he got killed, which is too bad, as he was kind of fun.

For ‘Ms. Marvel’, he is reported to be under consideration to play Maximus, Black Bolt’s sinister brother.  Coincidencidentally, for many years, Quicksilver was kind of an honorary member of the Inhumans Royal Family, as he was married to Crystal.

Personally, I think Diesel as Black Bolt would be a fun bit of meta casting, but I have my doubts about Taylor-Johnson.  In the case of Chan, she appeared with blue skin and hair as Minn-Erva, and as Sersi, she will look more the way she does in real life, with normal skin and black hair.

Both Quicksilver and Maximus look like regular humans.  The only change would be that Quicksilver had white hair and Maximus has black.  (Taylor-Johnson has naturally dark brown hair.)  Is that enough to differentiate them?

But keep in mind this is just a RUMOR at this point, so don’t take it too seriously.  Considering how far off ‘Ms. Marvel’ is, it may be too early for these sorts of decisions to be made.  ‘Hawkeye’ is coming first and we don’t really know that much about that show yet.

Marvel Comics

‘Ms. Marvel’ is based on the character Kamala Khan, who was an ordinary teenager until she was exposed to the Inhumans’ Terrigen Mist, giving her the ability to stretch, enlarge or shrink all or parts of her body.  As a Captain Marvel superfan, she adopted her old codename Ms. Marvel in her honor.

Bisha K. Ali (Hulu’s ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’) is writing and acting as showrunner.  Expect this series as part of Marvel’s Phase 5, kicking off in 2022.  As far as casting of the main character, Mindy Kaling, who is involved in the development of this series (and produced ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’), has stated that most likely Kamala would be played by a newcomer.

What would you think of Vin Diesel and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as part of the Inhumans?
