Both director Scott Derrickson and star Benedict Cumberbatch will be back for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, the long-awaited sequel to 2016’s ‘Doctor Strange’, and there will be a few twists. First, as Derrickson proclaimed, “We are going to make the first scary MCU film.”
Kevin Feige jokingly added:
“It’s gonna be PG-13 and you’re going to like it!”
Luckily, the Doctor won’t face these terrors alone. Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will join him in this adventure, and her upcoming Disney+ series ‘WandaVision’ will lead directly into this film. (In case you were wondering if you really wanted to subscribe to Disney+.)
‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is scheduled to open on May 7, 2021.
Derrickson previously hinted that Nightmare would be the sequel’s villain. There is also Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who began his descent into villainy in the first movie. He also hinted that the ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel would introduce Namor the Sub-Mariner. None of that was mentioned, much less confirmed one way or another. It was also not mentioned whether any other cast members from the first ‘Doctor Strange’– Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, or Tilda Swinton– would be back.
Both Cumberbatch and Olsen were last seen in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, and before that in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.
