Warner Brothers already has a near-monopoly on super hero live action shows, with The CW’s ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, ‘Supergirl’ and the upcoming ‘Black Lightning’.  Now they want even more!  They’ve also had a ‘Titans’ TV project in the works for years, originally connected to TNT who ultimately passed.  Instead, the show is now going to headline WB’s new DC streaming service (along with ‘Young Justice’ Season 3).

Now comes the biggest bit of news regarding ‘Titans’ yet!  The first cast member has been announced and it’s Teagan Croft who plays the mysterious Raven.  Croft is currently 13 years old and has starred in the series ‘Home and Away’ and the movie ‘Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child’ in her native Australia.  ‘Titans’ will be Croft’s first American production.

The ‘Titans’ pilot will be written by Akiva Goldsman, DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti, the mastermind behind the existing DC TV hits.

Raven (her real name) is the daughter of a human woman seduced by a charismatic cult leader who turned out to be a powerful demon lord, intent on using their child as his portal into our world.  Raven was taken to the mystic realm of Azarath to learn to suppress her emotions, the only way to prevent her father, Trigon’s plans.

But as adolescence hit… well, needless to say, it became harder to suppress her emotions and she sought out allies to aid her– the Titans.

In her earliest comic appearances, Raven was shown to be an older teen possibly 17 or 18.  But she gained real popularity on the ‘Teen Titans’ and ‘Teen Titans GO!’ cartoons in which she is shown to be much younger, which is apparently the direction the live action show is headed in.  She has also factored fairly heavily in the recent DC direct-to-video movies, voiced by Taissa Farmiga.  This version is something of a cross between the classic older comic version and the younger cartoon version.

Not a lot is known about ‘Titans’ so far.  The only other confirmed heroes are Nightwing (believed to be the focal character), Beast Boy and Starfire.  Honestly, that should be plenty, but I’m sure comic fans would love to see a few more, at least in cameo roles.

Are you familiar with Teagan Croft’s work?  Will she make a suitable Raven?
