While Stellan Skarsgård was out promoting his upcoming film ‘Hope’ at the Toronto International Film Festival, talks turned to the upcoming remake of ‘Dune.’ No one would expect an actor like Skarsgård to leak any juicy details about the movie, but he did share a bit as to director Denis Villeneuve’s style of working on set!
Regarding working with Villeneuve, Skarsgård shared:
“I’ve always wanted to work with him partly because he’s such a wonderful man, but also because he’s a brilliant director. It’s fun when you get one of those big sci-fi movies, and you know it’s going to be directed by a true filmmaker. It’s not going to be directed by the studio. It seemed like they were giving him pretty free hands. And you have to because his personal stamp on the film is paramount for the success of it.”
Villeneuve has had quite a bit of success in science fiction so far and the pedigree of actors he was able to attract for his take on ‘Dune’ should show exactly how well thought of he is in the industry. Outside of Skarsgård, the cast also includes the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, David Dastmalchian, and Zendaya.
Even if the movie weren’t based on Frank Herbert’s iconic novel, this would be on almost any genre fan’s must-see list from the cast alone. Since it is based on the cult classic, the actor would go on to share that he feels audiences everywhere will want to see it because Villeneuve is involved:
“What he’s really good at is creating this strange atmosphere with his imagery and this cinematic poetry that is his trademark and that will add so much richness to the pretty simple story.”
I’m sure that I am not alone when I stress that I cannot wait for more details of this take on ‘Dune.’ Not only for the film but due to Legendary expanding the mythos with a ‘Dune: The Sisterhood‘ television series.
