Dave Bautista made a huge splash when he jumped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Drax the Destroyer in the first ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie by James Gunn. Through the second film, ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘, and ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ we’ve seen the character not only become even more developed but evolve into a fan-favorite as well. Unfortuantely, like the rest of the Guardians, it appears that Marvel Studios doesn’t see merit in developing a solo outing with the character.
While we’ll still see Bautista return in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘ and hopefully beyond, it won’t be in a stand-alone film. Which is a shame because the humor and heart he has introduced to the world would be a perfect fit for a space-based action-comedy!

According to Bautista:
Point is I freaking love comic book characters and I want a stand alone. @MarvelStudios doesn’t see worth in #drax or possibly myself or both but I’m not giving up. I missed out on a DC project because of scheduling conflicts but hopefully there’s other characters & opportunities https://t.co/OX1XDnbmk9

We know that the actor has been critical of Disney for their firing of James Gunn before they brought the director back to the studio and you have to hope that this wasn’t the cause of any rift. Bautista has stated that there is no bad blood between him and the studio so hopefully, that isn’t the reason a solo Drax movie isn’t being put into production. As we haven’t heard of any other Guardian of the Galaxy getting their own film either, it just seems that they want the galactic side of things kept as an ensemble piece for the time being.
However, could you imagine a 6-hour Disney+ series which gave us Bautista on a mission? With Thanos and Ronan out of the picture, it seems unlikely that he has a need for vengeance that could fuel such an endeavor, but I have no doubt that a writer’s room couldn’t figure out a worthy cause for this warrior to champion.
Do you wish that Dave Bautista would have a chance for a solo outing as Drax? Would you prefer such an adventure be as a stand-alone film or a Disney+ series? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
