We already know that Henry Cavill is gearing up to play Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ and now we know when! It hasn’t been clear as to when the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and the games by CD Projekt RED would be available for streaming though it looks like the first season will drop in 2019. While that still leaves a full year for the possible range, it is better than the previously hinted release of 2020 or beyond!
The news comes from the show’s primary writer and showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich:
Some shiny new updates here…

This tweet also includes a very light synopsis that unfortunately doesn’t share plot points:
The Witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.
As to further casting, no announcements have been made though it was shared that:
“Normally, when casting a show, the casting director pulls character-specific scenes from the pilot script for actors’ auditions. However, because we’re casting internationally (which means lots of emails and self-tapes) and because we know by now the internet keeps no secrets,” she began, “the writing staff has instead created entirely new scenes for our main characters. These are written to illustrate the precise tone, vibe, depth, and emotional resonance we need from Geralt and friends… but voila! They are spoiler-free, for us and for you.
Which means if you start seeing Witcher scenes floating around the internet in the coming weeks — yes, they’re probably real! But no, they won’t give anything away as to the stories we’re telling, or the ways we’re telling them. You’re safe. For now. And hells yes, his name is Jaskier.
No real spoilers are out for the plot and it will likely still be some time before we end up seeing Cavill with makeup and an outfit on. That isn’t stopping some creative artwork from surfacing to imagine what the actor may look like:
