Such is the takeaway vibe I got from our advance screening of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ the kickoff for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Let’s be clear from the get-go: Marvel has been giving us entertaining, high-quality films for a long time now.  Almost 25 years, across dozens of television series, along with short films and literature tie-ins… this juggernaut is no slouch.  Unfortunately, every entry into the series can’t be a home run – and that’s where we need to have some “real talk” about ‘Quantumania.’ The story itself is right in line with what viewers have been given across the over-arching MCU narrative to date: things on Earth appear to be “settling in” a bit post-Blip (although, frustratingly, ‘Quantumania’ still does not reference anything to do with the giant stone Eternal that is now sticking out of the Earth, half-stuck, as shown in the climax of ‘The Eternals,’ with this new film believed to be the 11th property to take place in the MCU timeline set after those events with absolutely zero remarks or tie-ins to it). The story does reference The Blip, of course, as […]

Go Big Or Go Home With The New ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ Trailer https://sciencefiction.com/2022/10/24/go-big-or-go-home-with-the-new-ant-man-and-the-wasp-quantumania-trailer/ https://sciencefiction.com/2022/10/24/go-big-or-go-home-with-the-new-ant-man-and-the-wasp-quantumania-trailer/#disqus_thread Mon, 24 Oct 2022 18:36:08 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355767   Marvel has made plenty of waves this year with both their newly-released MCU content (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk) and key announcements for the forthcoming Phases of film & TV. One of the most anticipated upcoming films easily has to be ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’  After the first Ant-Man film was a pleasant surprise to both fans and critics alike, and its follow-up ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ continued to build on that success – not to mention casually dropping one of the most impactful pre-‘Endgame’ mid-credit scenes of all MCU time – fans now know that Marvel isn’t afraid to load this part of the MCU franchise with big reveals and important info. With that, today brings us the first trailer for the film that’s dropping in theaters in just a few short months.  It gives us a better look at the newest big-bad of the Marvel on-screen universe, Kang the Conqueror, along with some very tantalizing tidbits about what secrets the Quantum Realm is holding – and how long Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) has truly known about these secrets. Take a good look for yourself: […]

The first major change we see is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness being delayed about a month and a half, thus pushing the films with a following release date about the same. While this news may seem shocking, sources at Deadline claim this is not the result of any major problems, however, is the result of  the fact that”some titles are contending with finishing scenarios while others are in production.” That being said, these delays are only for the films that are scheduled to be released and appear to have no effect on the streaming series at Disney+. Below is the full recap of the Marvel release date changes that we know so far. Fortunately, the shift is minimal and we can all look forward to kicking off summer 2022 with what should be a huge hit. Marvel Release Date Changes Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – Delayed from March 25, 2022, to May 6, 2022 Thor: Love and Thunder – Delayed from May 6, 2022, to July 8, 2022 Black […]

Created by legendary Marvel Comics powerhouses Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Kang made his first appearance in 1964 in ‘The Avengers’ comic-book series and has had a long and illustrious career of tormenting pretty much every major Marvel hero and team, including the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Inhumans, and the X-Men.  Here’s the character’s brief description from Wikipedia: Kang the Conqueror is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character is most frequently depicted as an opponent of the Avengers. A time-traveling entity, several alternate versions of Kang have appeared throughout Marvel’s titles over the years, including his respective future and past heroic selves, Immortus and Iron Lad. In 2009, Kang was ranked as IGN’s 65th-greatest comic book villain of all time. Starring in the as-yet-untitled […]

Universal’s Islands of Adventure gave us a cool Hulk rollercoaster and a sweet Spider-Man ride, but those lack the MCU’s flare. Sure, that’s all because of licensing agreements from over twenty years ago, but we want some interactive Tom Holland Spidey action now! Don’t worry. Disney heard our cries and is set to deliver onto us tidings of colorful leather and spandex. 2020 is set to be the year in which significant changes will be happening all across Disney parks worldwide. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be a substantial factor in that metamorphosis. In the coming twelve months, Disney California Adventure Park will be home to the first phase of Avengers Campus. This new land will be entirely dedicated to the heroes and heroines of the MCU in some exciting ways. The initial E-Ticket attraction will be an interactive Spider-Man ride, which looks to be a combination of the IoA ride and ‘Toy Story Midway Mania.’ On this 3D journey, you’ll assist Spidey web-up his wayward Spider-Bots. Hopefully, this is just part of the ride, and we’ll run into some of the Webhead’s rogues […]

This is what Marvel Studios has in the pipeline for the next two years: May 1, 2020 – ‘Black Widow’ November 6, 2020 – ‘Eternals’ February 21, 2021 – ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ May 7, 2021 – ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ November 5, 2021 – ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ ‘Ant-Man 3’ joins ‘Blade’ and ‘Black Panther 2’ as part of Phase 5, but none of those has a specific production or release date lined up.   RELATED: Peyton Reed Shares There Are Undiscovered ‘Ant-Man And The Wasp’ Easter Eggs   Reed signed on to direct the first ‘Ant-Man’ after Edgar Wright had spent years developing the project for Marvel, but stepped away due to “creative […]

Here is what Larson told Variety: “I will say that a lot of the female cast members from Marvel walked up to Kevin and we were like, ‘We are in this together, we want to do this.  What that means, I have no idea. You know, I’m not in charge of the future of Marvel, […]

Since then, the character has been portrayed on the big screen by Halle Berry (kind of) and Anne Hathaway.  And Matt Reeves has reportedly included Catwoman in his screenplay for ‘The Batman’.  This has led to a flood of fan castings, as well as actual Hollywood actors throwing out their names for consideration. Well, relax, ALL of the existing Marvel Studios pictures, including ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ are going to be on Disney+.  As you can probably guess, there will be ZERO ‘Spider-Man’ movies, but if it helps, there will be several ‘Spider-Man’ cartoons.   RELATED:  Disney+ Will Offer 4K And Can Be Streamed On Up To 4 Devices At No Additional Cost   Along those lines, Disney+ will also have available on Day One every existing ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie. However, for those paying attention, we now know that the the rumored “Marvel Land” is going to be called the “Avengers Campus” and will be centered around a story-line where the Avengers are actively recruiting folks to join their ranks to help save the world. And to help make ordinary people as mighty as the Avengers, the story seems to be that Stark is using technology similar to the suit he designed for Spider-Man to enhance regular people, hence why the thrill ride for the land will be centered around Spider-Man. (It is a small comfort to know that Spider-Man will still be mixed in with the Avengers and his MCU counterparts in the theme parks at least.) Also revealed is that there will be an Ant-Man themed microbrewery in the Avengers Campus, as well as the standard restaurants […]

That doesn’t actually mean that Marvel STUDIOS made that amount.  Keep in mind, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ isn’t a Marvel Studios/Disney film.  It hails from Sony, but it’s still set within that storyline and it’s not as though Disney is weeping over that lost revenue.  On the upside, ‘Captain Marvel’ far exceeded the performance of Warner Brothers’ ‘Wonder Woman’, to become the first female-fronted superhero movie to cross the one billion threshold.  As for ‘Far From Home’, it’s now the highest-grossing ‘Spider-Man’ movie of all time.   RELATED:  How Far Out Is The Marvel Cinematic Universe Planned? Johnson expressed his stance on Twitter: Thanks so much everyone! Like AntMan’s success from the Avengers – ya never know how these smaller movies splinter off from their big franchises, so this win was a big one for us. https://t.co/400q8vdgQc — Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) August 8, 2019 Fans have been reacting positively to Johnson’s Marvel reference, with some even pointing out that he is set to play a DC character, Black Adam in an upcoming film, making his statement a little ironic. Each extra scene is about 30 seconds long: “Goji Berries” – Who’s been eating all of the Starks’ goji berries?   “Bombs on Board” – War Machine doesn’t quite understand Cap’s origin.   “Suckiest Army in the Galaxy” – Rocket discovers the Avengers spent hours battling the worst army in the galaxy (the Chthauri).  Because this was a deleted scene, the animation for Rocket is incomplete, and the image quality is pretty low.   “You Used to Frickin’ Live Here”- Same here, Rocket is incomplete.  Also, Thor appears to do a lot of product placement in this scene, so the items he is holding are blurred out.   “Tony and Howard” – A little father-son bonding.   Not included here is the scene featuring Katherine Langford as Tony and pepper’s daughter Morgan, as an adult.  It looks like Marvel and/or the Russo Brothers want that to stay buried.  Also not […]

In the comics, Zemo’s greatest scheme came during a time when the Avengers and Fantastic Four were missing (during the ‘Heroes Reborn’ event).  Enter a brand new superhero team– The Thunderbolts.  But in a twist, it turned out these “heroes” were actually Zemo and his Masters of Evil in disguise.  The Thunderbolts concept has evolved over the years and was “borrowed” by Norman Osborn (the Green Goblin)’s “Dark Avengers” which featured various villains masquerading as existing heroes– Moonstone as Ms. Marvel, Venom as Spider-Man, Dakken as Wolverine, and more. In case you hadn’t noticed, it looks as though the Earth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Avenger-less.  This plus the return of Zemo has many fans speculating that the MCU will soon introduce a live-action version of the Thunderbolts.  Have seeds already been planted?  Remember all those complaints that the early Marvel villains were just bad versions of the heroes?  Hmmm… Let’s take a look and see who could […]
