Brainiac-5 will remain in his past for quite some time. Despite returning to the future with Imra (Amy Jackson) in the last episode of ‘Supergirl’, he appeared in the preview for the upcoming season finale. Now it’s been announced that actor Jesse Rath will return for season four as a series regular.
In a joint statement, executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller said:
“We love the character of Brainiac-5 and can’t imagine anyone but Jesse Rath in the role. He brings such fun, heart and brilliance to Brainy, and we’re so excited he’s joining the cast as a series regular for season 4. We have a lot of great Brainy stories to tell.”
Of course in the comics, Brainy was one of Supergirl’s great loves… possibly the greatest love of her life. So it should be interesting to see where the show goes in that regard, considering Kara’s godawful romantic history. Is it time for her to finally find happiness?
Unfortunately, his introduction on ‘Supergirl’ along with Jackson as Saturn Girl, as part on Mon-El‘s Legion of Superheroes was pretty lackluster. In the comics, the team usually has at least a dozen members at a time, so… three was a bit underwhelming. But maybe now he’ll get a chance to grow and play a greater role in upcoming episodes.
There have been a few shufflings with the casts of The CW’s returning DC comic book shows. Keiynan Lonsdale announced he was departing for personal reasons, while Matt Ryan and Jes Macallan have been promoted to series regulars on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ and ‘The Flash’ is bumping up Hartley Sawyer (Elongated Man) and Danielle Nicolet (Cecile Horton).
‘Supergirl’ is moving to Sunday nights this fall, at 8pm EST. The CW has not yet announced when their new seasons will launch.
The current third season finale will air this Monday.
