Among the new original offerings that Apple plans to offer to users of its devices as free streaming entertainment, is a revival of Steven Spielberg’s 1980s science fiction anthology series ‘Amazing Stories’. Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are serving as executive producers and showrunners. Edward Burns, who worked with Spielberg on the classic ‘Saving Private Ryan’, has been cast to star in one episode. He is also executive producing. Burns, who is also an accomplished director, is not helming this project. That will be handled by Mark Mylod (‘Game of Thrones’).
“The drama is an anthology that Apple describes as something that transports audiences to worlds of wonder through the lens of today’s most imaginative filmmakers, directors, and writers.”
All that is known about the episode is that Burns will be playing a government agent named Bill Kaminski. Costarring in the episode will be Burns’ frequent costars Kerry Bishé and Austin Stowell. The episode is now in production in Atlanta.
This year, Burns wrote, produced, directed and starred in the period drama ‘Summertime’. He also created the TNT series ‘Public Morals’, on which he also starred, directed, produced and wrote. In addition, he starred on the program ‘Mob City’ and played himself in a multi-episode arc on ‘Entourage’.
Bishé most recently appeared on ‘The Romanoffs’. Before that, she starred on the series ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ and ‘Narcos’ and in the movie ‘Argo’. She previously worked with Burns on ‘Public Morals’, as well as in the movies ‘The Fitzgerald Family Christmas’, ‘Newlyweds’, and ‘Nice Guy Johnny’.
Stowell also starred on ‘Public Morals’ with Burns and Bishé. He has also starred in ’12 Strong’, ‘Bridge of Spies’ and ‘Whiplash’. He may be remembered for playing Jesse in ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’.
‘Amazing Stories’ was the first scripted series that Apple ordered for its new offering, but at that time Bryan Fuller was in charge. He parted ways with Apple when it turned out that his vision was too dark for Apple’s all-ages intent for this product.
‘Amazing Stories’ is an anthology, so every episode will be directed by someone new with an all-new story and cast. Apple has not yet announced when it will be offering this original programming, but whenever it does launch, it will be free on all Apple devices.
