DC is getting set to deliver its biggest fan experience ever with DC Fandome, a virtual convention that will cover everything from the comics to television to film and will feature appearances from some major stars from all fields. Ruby Rose sent shockwaves through fandom in May when she announced that she was quitting her hit freshman series ‘Batwoman’. She was reportedly unhappy with the physical demands of fronting an action series, and last year, she had suffered a bad injury onset that required emergency surgery. While she hasn’t remained silent, she hasn’t offered much additional information on her leaving. She has finally opened up in an interview with EW: “Being the lead of a superhero show is tough. Being the lead in anything is tough. But I think, in that particular instance, it was a lot more difficult because I was still recovering from my surgery. I had my surgery and then 10 days later I went to work, which maybe wasn’t the best idea. Most people take about a month or three off before they return to work, so it was definitely made more difficult by that. Fans of DC Comics and its various media had to have been disappointed that none of them were presented at San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual con this year. Instead, the WarnerMedia DC empire is holding its own virtual con, DC Fandome, on August 22. This event will take place for 24 hours. At least from the look of things, DC Fandome will be a more interactive experience (I really don’t need to see another Zoom panel) and “attendees” will be able to explore various virtual areas and get teases from upcoming projects like the movies ‘Aquaman’ (the sequel or the movie that came out two years ago?), ‘The Batman’, ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, and HBO Max’s re-edit ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’; and the TV shows ‘Batwoman’, ‘Doom Patrol’, ‘Lucifer’, and ‘Pennyworth’. “Real Heroes Wear Masks” tout a new series of posters from The CW featuring some of the stars of its DC Comics-inspired shows. Okay, so these are just photoshopped versions of previously released promo images, but they’re a fun way to hopefully help curb the spread of COVID-19. The posters feature ‘Black Lightning’s Cress Williams, ‘The Flash’s Grant Gustin, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’s Caity Lotz, and ‘Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist, as well as Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, star of the upcoming ‘Superman & Lois’ plus Brec Bassinger, the lead on ‘Stargirl’, another DC show, but one that is not part of the Arrowverse. Yes, there is one glaring omission: Batwoman. Ruby Rose shockingly quit that series in May. And while her replacement, Javica Leslie, was hired last month, she would not have had time to suit up and do a photoshoot. (Although that would’ve been cool, and a big scoop!) Rather than recast her role as Bruce Wayne’s cousin, Kate Kane, producers have chosen to introduce a new character to assume the duties of Batwoman, Gotham City’s new protector. Enter Ryan Wilder. Javicia Leslie is the new Batwoman. She will assume the role of Ryan Wilder in the second season of The CW’s DC comic book-based drama, replacing Ruby Rose who exited the series in a shocking move in May. Rather than recast Rose’s part of Kate Kane, the producers have chosen to introduce a brand new, non-comic book-based character to assume the title of Gotham City’s newest protector. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today, reformed and sober, Ryan lives in van with her plant. Fans were shocked two weeks ago, when Ruby Rose announced that she was not returning for the second season of her hit CW series ‘Batwoman’. The reasons behind her departure seem to boil down to the demands of fronting a major weekly action-adventure series. It was assumed that producers would recast her role of Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne’s cousin who assumed the identity of Batwoman to protect a crime-riddled Gotham City in his absence. But now it has been revealed that instead, the series will introduce a completely new character to adopt the Batwoman identity. The new character will be named Ryan Wilder, and she is described as being “the complete opposite of Kate Kane.” As was the case with Rose, producers are seeking an LGBTQ actor for the role, and she should be in her mid- to late-20s. Fans were shocked last week when it was announced that Ruby Rose had left her freshman CW series ‘Batwoman’, part of the network’s “Arrowverse.” Many have wondered about the circumstances that led to this fracture, but while Rose hasn’t offered an official explanation, Variety reports that insiders close to the production have stated that she was unhappy with the long hours required of her as the star of a weekly action show. This unhappiness, it seems, led to “friction” on the set. Essentially, it sounds as though Rose didn’t keep her misery a secret, so it was a joint decision to let her go and recast the role of Bruce Wayne’s cousin, Kate Kane. It should be noted that ‘Batwoman’ Season 1 consisted of 20 episodes. These days, season lengths vary wildly, with many hour-long dramas only devoting 13 episodes to each season. Rose announced her departure in a statement released on Tuesday, two days after the Season 1 finale of the series: “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. The Entire Arrowverse Along With The Rest Of The CW’s New “Fall” Lineup Has Been Pushed To 2021

While most folks have held out hope that things would be back to normal soon, the effects of COVID-19 continue to escalate and The CW is the first network to announce that the usual fall TV rollout will not happen as usual this year. The main problem is that most shows had to cut their current seasons short, so there are still multiple episodes of ‘Batwoman’, ‘The Flash’, and ‘Supergirl’, as well as ‘Riverdale’, ‘Legacies’, and ‘Supernatural’ (which is in its FINAL season), that were left unfilmed. Luckily, ‘Black Lightning’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ were completely wrapped before shutdowns went into effect. Hopefully, the unfilmed episodes will be completed and aired this year, because The CW has declared that its new season won’t begin until at least January 2021! Reportedly, The CW’s new series ‘Superman & Lois’ began production before being shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak, so it’s unclear whether or not it will be able to debut this fall as planned, but rest assured, it is on its way. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch star in the titular roles, but this time, the Man of Steel and his intrepid reporter wife will be seen as they never have before in live-action– as parents. While Lois gave birth to a baby boy last autumn, thanks to the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, they are now the parents to two teenage sons, Jonathan and Jordan. The COVID-19 coronavirus has thrown the entire world into disarray and the entertainment industry is certainly feeling the impact. Luckily for fans, The CW’s Arrowverse shows– ‘The Flash’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, ‘Supergirl’, and ‘Batwoman’— had already finished shooting their current seasons by the time productions started to shut down industry-wide. There were still some issues with post-production, however, which has resulted in a shuffling of their schedules. But now comes word that these four fan-favorites will be back in April. ‘The Flash’ and ‘Legends’ will return with new episodes on Tuesday, April 21. New episodes of ‘Batwoman’ and ‘Supergirl’ will arrive on April 26. This week, The CW is re-airing the massive “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover to help fill the void. Fans of The CW’s longest-running show, ‘Supernatural’, are not so lucky. It was already a tough pill to swallow that the current 15th season is the last, but now the coronavirus has scrambled that. Netflix & Apple TV+ Shut Down All Productions; Pilot Season In Jeopardy Due To Coronavirus

Basically, the COVID-19 coronavirus has shut down everything. Production on nearly every TV show and movie has been shut down. National treasure Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were the first celebrities that reported that they had contracted the illness during pre-production in Australia on his next movie, the untitled Baz Luhrman Elvis Presley biopic. Now comes word that both Netflix and Apple TV+ have shut down all of their original productions, and that pilot season is in turmoil as the networks now won’t be able to screen pilots of potential series on schedule. Among the Netflix shows that have shut down is ‘Stranger Things’, which JUST got started on production of the fourth season last week. Among the Apple TV+ shows that have shut down are ‘See’, ‘For All Mankind’, ‘Servant’, and ‘Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet’. ‘Batwoman’ Review: Kate Makes A Difficult Decision In “Take Your Choice”

Unlike the pre-Crisis world, this new Earth-Prime universe is governed by strictures that ArrowVerse characters and viewers alike are still getting used to. For Alice and Beth, the universal anomaly that brought Beth to Earth Prime warrants only one instance of a person able to occupy the same world. This seems like an arbitrary change in the familiar rules, created for the sole purpose of adding drama to Kate’s life and though it could have been mildly entertaining, “Take Your Choice” ends up exactly how everyone assumed it would. Some of the more pronounced mistakes often made when crafting a primary antagonist is a character that’s too over the top, lacks a compelling backstory, or missing the strength of a capable actor. Think about the some of the better comic villains in recent years like Thanos, Zemo, and Zod; or, looking next door to those present in the ArrowVerse itself (Deathstroke, Zoom); all have had that killer combination of good (to great) acting, a stimulating backstory, and reasonable (if not a bit barmy) motivations.
