‘Game of Thrones’ took one of the highest honors of the night at the 2018 Emmy Awards, which were given out on Monday, September 17, at a ceremony at the Microsoft Theater, hosted by ‘Saturday Night Live”s Michael Che and Colin Jost. The second-to-last season of ‘Game of Thrones’ won Best Drama, while Peter Dinklage won Best Supporting Actor, Drama. Overall, HBO tied with Netflix, taking the most awards, 23 for the night.
Last year’s Drama darling, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ came up short this year. Some took issue with the Season Two finale, so that may have shifted favor elsewhere. Samira Wiley did win Guest Actress, Drama, however. Thandie Newton won Best Supporting Actress, Drama for ‘Westworld’ and ‘Black Mirror’‘s ‘U.S.S. Callister’ episode won Best TV Movie and Best Writing for a TV Movie. ‘Rick & Morty’ took home Best Animated Series. But that was it for the genre projects.
The landslide of the night belonged to Amazon’s ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’, which won Best Comedy, Best Actress, Comedy for star Rachel Brosnahan, Best Supporting Actress for Alex Borstein plus Writing and Directing honors. Other than that, the awards were sprinkled evenly around.
