As the current tenth season of British sci-fi drama ‘Doctor Who‘ makes its way towards the end of the season, fans of the series are wondering more and more who will be taking over the title role. As current portrayer of the long-living titular Time Lord character, Peter Capaldi has already announced that this season will be his last – so the question stands, who’s next?
We’ve heard a few names tossed around previously – more on these below – but a new contender is now rumored to be entering into the race: Luke Treadaway. For those unfamiliar with the name, Treadaway is a 32-year-old British actor and singer, known best around his home country for his award-winning performance as the lead actor in the stage production of ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.’ He has also been seen in such feature films as ‘Unbroken,’ ‘A Street Cat Named Bob,’ and ‘Clash of the Titans.’
After hearing the rumored news of his contention for the role, via an unnamed source, Treadaway responded with a fairly cryptic tweet:

Other actors rumored to be in contention for the role include Kris Marshall, of whom it was already reported by a different source that he had already landed the role, and Sacha Dhawan, who has previously had experience in the ‘Doctor Who’ world after appearing in the semi-biographic drama ‘An Adventure in Time and Space’ for the BBC.
It’s further reported that while the BBC powers-that-be were at one time seriously considering it, the part of the Doctor going to a female is no longer an active part of casting plans.
The current season of ‘Doctor Who’ airs Saturday evenings on BBC America.
