It appears not all was lost on the day the Republic fell. According to star Samuel L Jackson (and later confirmed by George Lucas as a definite possibility), it seems that Jedi Master Mace Windu may still be roaming the ‘Star Wars’ galaxy, robot replacement arm and all. According to a statement made by Jackson on Twitter (check out the Tweet for yourself below), he believes that Mace might still be alive following his confrontation with Darth Sidious and Anakin Skywalker during the events of ‘Revenge of the Sith.’ In Jackson’s words:

“Of course he is [still alive]! Jedi can fall from amazing distances. And there’s a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?”

Jackson is basically saying that Jedi are known for being able to land after long falls and heal themselves quickly, all which would be required after having your hand chopped off and thrown out a skyscraper window. And he has a point. Even in the movies there is a precedence as Luke Skywalker himself lost a hand and fell a long way down in ‘Empire,’ and he survived to fight another day. And Jackson is also right in that there are other Jedi (in the Expanded Universe) besides Luke and Anakin who have still been powerful duelists even with a robotic hand, so there is no reason to assume that Windu would lose his warrior status.

If the man truly is still alive, though, where has he been this whole time? Has he indeed been hiding out on some remote planet like Yoda and Obi-Wan? (seems a little out of character to me) Or could he still be secretly fighting the good fight in some distant part of the galaxy? More importantly, is there a chance that Disney might take note of Jackson’s comments and think about doing a stand-alone Mace Windu movie set between the Prequels and the Original trilogy?

Only time will tell, but the prospect definitely sounds very exciting to me, and I would love to see Mace Windu back in the ‘Star Wars’ universe.

Do you agree? Or do you think that would cheat his death and ruin Anakin’s fall to the dark side? Share your opinions in the comments section below!
